The B235R goes like a stabbed rat in the 93, it's quick in Hirsch form (300bhp and 400nm)in my dame edna 9-5

Yarp, I had a 275bhp Saab 9-5.

Fast.... but not fun by any means.... maybe the same setup in a 9-3 would indeed be slightly more fun.

Bit of a high miles example but they're quite rare, you get the 2.3 engine from the 9-5 but in the lighter 3 door shell of the 9-3. While maybe not quite as bulletproof as the B234 engine found in 9000's, the B235 is still solid (with the PCV system kept in good fettle) and very tuneable

I had an Aero 2.0 with about 220bhp (stage 1 remap, should have been 250bhp but mine had boosting problems) and even at that level it made for an entertaining drive as it really feels that the power is at odds with the chassis trying to contain it

If that's the one in West Yorkshire,don't bother.

3 or 4 of the Saab lads have been to inspect it. Rough as hell, bits missing, and the seller is waaaaasaay out of touch with the price.


Hence he's had it for sale for about 18 months.



P.s. don't get an xk8, dad had one for 4-5 years. I drove it a lot.

Slow,slushbox ruined it, tiny cockpit, 3.7mpg average across ownership.


My 200sx wiped the floor with it, repeatedly.

Alot of cars now sold are turds IME hence my comment earlier on about the DC2 and DC5s ; I saw an absolute wreck of a car go at CCA for £8k ; IMHO that was no more than a £3k car which something even Lewis can testify.

It's one reason why I bought my cosmetically rough W124 over a modern Focus Estate, and also why I gave up buying an Audi TT 2 years ago (a £2k car would have soon been a £4k car and still with faults and baggage) and almost the M3 ;sometimes I wonder if I should have done with the latter!

It's not like I didn't see a few cars either ; 5 in the case of the M3. It probably would have cost me a bit in fuel for when I did find a bargain, even though it probably did anyway!

IME bargains now for anything not at a mint condition price but sound tends to come from word of mouth or being lucky.

Buy a 350Z, do a few subtle tweaks (exhaust, intake, few braces, make it stiffer, better discs & pads), enjoy. You can get one that's not full of rust, where everything works, and have an absolute blast - even at sensible speeds. Compact enough so you can actually deploy some of its performance without being immediately concerned about oncoming traffic on smaller roads, too.

As an added bonus, they're tough, sound superb, look the part, are rear-drive, relatively straightforward and there's plenty around for them. Keeps you out of the pitfalls of used forced induction cars (head gaskets, turbos, etc) and are far more evocative to drive than the likes of a tired Evo 5 or plain Jane WRX.

Bigger saloons and the like are all well and good but they just feel like big, heavy saloons in a lot of cases - unless you're into the 500bhp region, but then that's a very different ball game.

I was looking at a similar dilemma not so long ago
And basically there is no real answer
I would like a Audi RS6 estate as it ticks all the boxes the one I want is about 25k and the early twin turbo ones start at 10k
And will cost as much each year to maintain

But as I'm a bit handy with a hammer and a monkey wrench
It made sense to build something
So I took my daily driver (Volvo 240) and stuck a Lexus V8 engine with a single turbo conversion
The end result is a car that's as practical as an Audi A6 estate and whilst the RS6 has more power I'm pretty sure my Volvo is more fun
And I've got something no one else has

And my wife won't drive it (she can't pull away without spinning the wheels)
