I have bought myself a MK2 Escort Rally car model kit Its been about 3 years since I last made a model kit which was a Sprint car sprint caranyway, as I am into oval racing I thought I would build my escort as a Classic Hot Rod, like this, which almost has the same side graphics, and most of the same sponsor decals. as it wont be using the "glass", I thought I would use the models windscreen glass but cut it down and use the top part to make a visor as in the pic above, it would be painted with the body, it would also fit properly with the right contour. My question is, as per my topic title is; How can I cut the glass, without breaking it? I have a dremel, will that do it with a cutting wheel?

thanks, I had never have thought of making my own graphics, so have put that onto my "watched items" along with some plastic rod that I may use to alter the roll cage.
cutting with dremel, yes I think it would melt the edges, I didnt think of that initially.
the mini saw looks ok, suppose I could use a mini hacksaw blade and take it easy

That paper is brilliant. Complete replicas of your own cars reproduced in miniature!

White waterslide transfer paper was used on these, with the body colour round the outside to hide the white edge when trimming.

I use a razor saw like the one pictured above. They are a lot sharper than you think and make quick work of cutting plastic.
I use my razor saws for a lot more than modelling.

Be careful when cutting the glass bits as the plastic is normally much more brittle than the rest of the kit.

Be careful when cutting the glass bits as the plastic is normally much more brittle than the rest of the kit. tell me about it! luckily the part I was cutting was taped up and I got it sorted here is a link to the pics of my build, updated often at the moment, descriptions with each pic, I AM NO EXPERT, its on facebook but its a public album so anyone can view it regardless of whether you are registered or not ford escort model build linkquestion about the transfer paper, I have bought some, theres no problem with me scaling down potential graphics as I can print them on normal paper first to help get them the right size, my question is what do I coat the transfer with when printed? I am using ink jet printer. will nail varnish be ok? thinned? tell me more. ta

I've used a clear spray sealer, velspar I think. This (fortunately) didn't react with the Halfords clear lacquer top coat.

For the ink jet printed stickers and decals I make for my models I give them a coat of ink jet fix before use.

I'm building the same kit and have to say the quality and fit of things isn't great.
I spaced out the rear wheels with some tiny washers but there isn't scope to do that with the front so I'm not sure what to do.

I agree, the mouldings are curse word the front end is pap and far too narrow, if I were to build again I think I would just make longer front arms from the sprue. or pack out the stubs, or just glue the wheels on as far out as possible.
