"New rust-proofing methods should solve the problem..."
Apparently, Lancia turned the subframe upside-down on the later models to resolve the issue: "The revision to the crossmember was quite simple and meant turning it through 180 degrees forming an 'n' channel rather than a 'u' channel thus preventing dirt and water collecting and causing rust."
Such a pity that Lancias and Alfa Romeo Alfasuds of that era were built from a batch of cheap, high-carbon Russian steel that rotted like mad. Great looking and designed cars undermined by cost-cutting, though possibly no worse than a good many other '70s cars.

I can remember my mate had an alfa sud which we took for an mot. It got put on a 2 post ramp & the mechanic called us in to inspect it. The car was about 3 feet off the ground but the whole front chassis from the bulkhead forward was still on the floor!

I worked with a guy with a ‘sud, one morning he was late into work, when he finally arrived it was in a taxi. Turns out the sud had sheared a front lower wishbone and he’d put it in a ditch. 6 months later he gets a nice letter from alfa advising him to get the vehicle checked, due to a corrosion issue in the front wishbones!ðŸ˜

The car was about 3 feet off the ground but the whole front chassis from the bulkhead forward was still on the floor! My first 'sud was similar (yes i bought another one...)it failed its MOT on something minor, but on putting it upon a mates ramp it turned out the front of the car was basically attached by the front engine mount, wiring loom and not much else... It very quickly took a trip over the 'bridge. If i remember rightly i got something like 75p as at the time it was a £1 a ton... ( mid 90's) oh and back to topic found this 2.0 GT Grannie in a sleepy little village we were staying in the Pyrenees a few weeks back enjoying its retirement in the mountains overlooking the river,

When I was at college a mate worked in the body shop at Boundary Garage near Ashby-de-la-Zouch in Leicestershire, at the time it was an Austin Rover and Alfa dealers, he always reckoned the Alfa 33s needed the tops of the wings repainting on PDI as they were already bubbling up with rust. 😳 That must have been one busy shop!!! 😂

Ah, we are back in Picardie one day in December 2015. It is cold, there is a little wind, and some birds sing. Nice house, ins't? A beautiful French house with its blue shutters, its beautiful interior staircase, its large mirror overlooking the fireplace ... but abandoned, what sadness. But what interests us is at the bottom of the garden. Oh yes anyway ! What beauty !! Is the only american car I've found in all the wrecks I've seen. A magnificent 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback, re-registered in 1975. She was blue, but it was repainted green then. The engine is the V8 4.7 289ci and it has an air conditioning compressor, which is rare it seems. This car would be involved in a bank robbery that took in 1976 (which would explain the last vignet on the windshield), but unfortunately I did not find any article in the press. Unfortunately all good things have an end: in January 2016 barely a month after my arrival, she simply gone after 39 years in the same place, in a garage behind a beautiful house in the depths of Picardy. I was told that she would have been moved to a neighbor's house because of too many visitors (the number plate of my car having been noted by a local resident ... as well as that of my friends) and nuisances doing in the village because of these visits.

Nice find. Who in their right mind would use a lary, loud, bright green car for a bank robbery though?
