So I randomly ended up with this on my drive after a text from a mate. It was his colleagues but just failed its MOT on a few minor things and he didn’t want to get it fixed up. Only a couple of pictures for now but for £300 including the original alloys, 3/4 tank of fuel, cam belt kit, some bulbs and folder full of history. This is probably the cleanest car I’ve ever owned 😂 Very happy and it drives extremely well. The only bits needing sorting are. Slightly crusty rear sill. Hand brake efficiency poor( new cables) and a couple of bolts for the rear ARB 😊

Rev 3? I've looked at Mk2 MR2's a few times now but never quite ended up with one, they're a cool little car and that looks very decent for 300 quid!

These have got to be one of the best sportscars for the money right now. They’re on the cusp of rock bottom to appreciating classic. My stepdads had a few, one being a rev2 import that I had the pleasure of having a drive in. The balance and handling is incredible and I think they’re massively underestimated. Everyone craves the turbo but I don’t think they need the extra power in B road circumstances

I believe it’s a rev 3 which is good as it means a couple more BHP apparently. I’ve got the standard alloys which I’m not sure what to do with as I like how it looks on these 17’s just don’t know if they are too big for the car to adversely affect handling? As the original are staggered different width rims. The 17’s are the same width but with different size tyres. So pleased with it for the money. Probably a £150 car with the fuel in it wheels, cam belt etc.

Everyone craves the turbo but I don’t think they need the extra power in B road circumstances I’m hoping they start going up. But saying that there aren’t many out there. Really fallen off in recent years. The few I’ve seen have been around £1500-2000 with full MOT etc. So if it’s worth that when done then happy days. Really looking forward to getting it out in the peaks and enjoying it.

Found the cause of the slow puncture so she’s sitting on the spare while I get that fixed this week. I also searched through all the paperwork and full service history. In the last year <1000 miles it’s had a new clutch cost more than I bought the car for. Service at Toyota couple hundred quid and couple of months ago it had a new rear wheel bearing at Toyota for £300 😳 I really can’t get over how clean this thing is. Although noticed a strange electrical fault when the electric window bottoms/tops out or the pop ups come up. The radio turns off briefly then back on. So I assume it’s a dodgy earth somewhere as it’s an aftermarket radio hmm...

So I got home from work about 6pm tonight after a drive up from the south coast put the little one to bed and thought I’ll jack the mr2 up and have a look at these bushes! After after a few automotive wins under my belt recently with the gold passing its MOT I set to getting the old arb bushes off. Surprisingly everything came apart easily with no rounded bolt heads or snapped bolts. So I managed to replace both sides. Happy days. For this i had to drop the subframe to get access to the top bracket bolt. From here it was pretty straight forward. New brackets and poly bushes a few grazed knuckles and we’re all back together. New vs old bracket Think they defo needed changing New vs old bush All back together

Managed to get the welding on the rear drivers sill sorted today. I made the wise decision to let someone else do the dirty work. A mornings work later and this was the result. Old rusty sill New one welded in Quite pleased to be honest. Would have loved to do it myself but worth spending out the money and getting it done right. I’ve sprayed some primer and top coat to keep the weather out while I go on holiday. Just need to sort the handbrake and it’s MOT time now!

Back on its wheels now and after playing with the handbrake I thought I had it adjusted but alas no!
So I’m going to pass it it my local garage to sort out and MOT over the next week while I’m away.
Basically as I can’t be bothered and just want it on the road lol

First proper drive this morning. Collected it from the garage and dropped my other car off. Then 80 miles to Preston across the peaks. Definitely not a bad fun little car.

So this happened! It’s so fricking loud!!! My god I’m not sure it was a good idea! I need to get a video up to try and show the noise. It does sound epic but it’s mentally loud! Had my mates toy keeping an eye on precedings.

Fantastic buy.
I've owned one of these for this for five years now so know the usual problems.
First thing to do is remove trim panel covering seat belt rollers behind seats. Reach in and remove foam sitting within inner sill. It holds water from leaky rear 1/4 windows (another job to do) - this is why the sills rot from inside out.
ALWAYS run decent brand tyres on these cars. A young guy at the end of my street managed to write off two mr2s within one month .. cheap tyres / inexperience = disaster.
Finally the rear suspension has a hard life and you'll probably need to polybush throughout.
Enjoy!

Fortunately it’s got half decent tyres. Uniroyal rain sport 3’s so grip decent. I’ll look into more polybushed stuff on the rear and upgrade as I go! I may have also just bought a new exhaust as this one is just too loud!

What an awesome buy! The shotgun exhausts looked awesome, but I know a loud exhaust soon gets tedious, the side exit on my van is going to have to go shortly... Look forward to seeing more progress on this, got many more plans in the pipeline?

Look forward to seeing more progress on this, got many more plans in the pipeline? I’m not kidding it was so loud! I felt so bad driving it on anything more than 1mm of throttle. It sounded great when it was screaming but even with ear plugs it was too loud haha but the new was is just right. Nice and loud but can be quiet if needed. And lovely burbles and pops on the overrun.
