Quiet. That's one of the reasons why we stay where we do. It's close enough to all the action but far enough away that you can have a BBQ in the garden and be completely unaware of what's going on. The church bells wake me up at 6am but that's about it... And when you get up for the loo in the middle of the night you can just about hear the sound of R32 and VR6 engines being tortured up on the mountain roads Sweet, will probably be on to you for more info, we're thinking of doing a Low Set road trip next year Thought I'd blow the cobwebs off my account and post! Depending on how low the vehicles you may be taking are, it's worth making a note of the various Austrian requirements surrounding ride height and noise and so on.... this year, at least one UK car had it's plates taken after he'd been told to raise his ride height (although by all accounts this didn't stop him driving the car home without recovering his plates) and Jamie Orr from Orchid Euro had his documents and plates taken from his Citi Golf with 3.6 VR6 power (despite being an invited guest of VW)... (he trailered his car to the German border in the end) HoTWire - if you like quiet - then Pörtschach-am-Wörthersee (I think there's another Pörtschach a bit away from the lake!) or Klagenfurt are your best bets to get sufficiently away from the hustle and bustle... they're also, coincidentally more likely to have vacancies at the Pensions and Hotels... In '04 when we first went, we camped.... I would *not* recommend that if you like to sleep.... (also if camping, steer clear of FKK campsites unless you like nudists - it's NOT a chain of campsites )

Despite not being a huge fan of stanced German cars, the whole idea of Worthersee is just awesome - thanks for the photos to show us what we're missing out on!
The only mildly cool VW i'm likely to ever have is my father in laws Beach Buggy, would be very cool to take it here one day. Although it would need a huge amount of work on it to even consider such a huge roadtrip in a vehicle that can't reach national speed limit!

Thanks DarrenW, It's threads like this that introduce me lots of things I didn't think I liked until now.

Cracking photos,The odd thing is i was probably stood a few feet away from you when you took them! One of my strongest memories is, as you said, waking up in the middle of the night to hear r32's and rs4's getting a good thrashing along the lake road (we stayed on the lake) It was my first year there (and definately not my last) after driving over in this old barge that belongs to my friend: If you have any photos of it i'm sure he'd like to see them. Some wheel things. If you've been looking closely you'll have spotted that as well as all the aftermarket wheel manufacturers (Vossen, Rotiform, Rad48 etc etc) there are a few other trends that are big. 2) I'm not sure about how this is done, so correct me if I'm wrong, but this look is popular - BBS splits re-arranged so the centre is on the outside (I think that's it?). Keeps the tyres within the arches (so it'll sit right down when the airride is dropped) but gives a wider stance. VW Scirocco Mk1 SLN631R by Wörthersee Pics, on Flickr It's called "Zero lip"-style.

We were going to take our VW T3 Whitestar this year, as the T5 V6 Caravelle was pretty much the perfect vehicle last year... but in the end, we took a 2 year old Skoda Yeti - decided air conditioning was a bigger priority than having an 'indoor' seating area... and while AC was nice... there were a few times where the shade would have been very welcome! haha #crispyskin

I have long been surprised than so few people modify XJ40s, since they are so low stock to begin with. I once parked my Sovereign next to a lowered Mk2 Golf and the roof of my Jaguar was actually lower than that of the Golf, despite my car being on stock comfort springs!

We had an aircooled nerd with us this year, he wasn't really sure what to expect (but loved the event once the size of it began to sink in!). This really got him excited, apparently it's a 1949 (or very close to) Bug. Original and uniquely different side trim and all kinds of features. I don't know much about them but I did spot the bump in the roof above the windscreen for the original antenna mount (goes from the middle of the base of the windscreen and has a bracket to hold it on the roof). Sits on Der Steiner Rad wheels too, lovely. 1949 Split Oval VW Beetle on DSR wheels by Wörthersee Pics, on Flickr 1949 Split Oval VW Beetle on DSR wheels by Wörthersee Pics, on Flickr
