1964 Ford Thunderbird, Stolen, Brampton, Cambs 18/08/18 A turquoise 1964 Ford Thunderbird was stolen from behind the Brewers Fair at Brampton Services at around 7:40am on Saturday 18th August 2018. The car has a 6.4 V8 mated to an automatic transmission & is fitted with a blue interior which is in poor condition. The car didn’t have the registration numbers fitted & has been sat for a number of years. The tyres were flat & the front windscreen was missing. It has been posted on numerous classic car spotted pages giving location details! This is at least the third car to have been stolen following similar postings in recent months. Posts on Facebook “Spotted” groups giving location details do nothing but give info to potential thieves!

I'm part of a spotting group on Facebook - I have a personal code of ethics whereby I never give specific locations, and perhaps a little OTT but I never photograph cars when they're outside their owners' homes. I only ever post cars I've seen in public areas such as supermarket car parks etc. And this is precisely why, I don't want thieves knowing where cars live.

I conducted a experiment on the very thing probably 10 years ago on a Ford forum after being told i was daft to suggest someone could find a car from a picture . A town and a picture and its all too easy .

Glad it's been found. My understanding is that this was stored in a really obvious commercial location and not well either (not covered or secured), wouldn't be surprised if someone carted it away for scrap on someones request.
If it was mine i'd have put a small cover on it and a wheel clamp :/

Only takes a wrong 'un to recognise part of a street and suddenly the owner's had a bullseye painted on their back through no fault of their own.

I’ve seen this car a couple of times, no security or anything. Easy to take, the owner is asking for it to be stolen,
At least park it in a better place and cover it up, and leaving it without the windscreen is or trying to waterproof it is stupid,

Every time I post on the spotted thread I try & crop my pics as close to the car as possible for two reasons 1 not to give anything away 2 to get hopefully a good quality close up of vehicle

who on earth leaves a car like that outdoors with no windscreen, i'm surprised the owner even noticed it had been stolen or cared that much. Hope it gets fixed up now.

It belongs to the chef at the pub, it was sheeted up but it's kept being removed - probably by all the people who keep posting photos of it along with it's exact location. From memory there is a story behind why the car is in the state it is and it's not for sale.

From memory there is a story behind why the car is in the state it is and it's not for sale. It was his brothers car, he tragically died. András got the car with a view to restoring it but lost his storage hence it being parked behind the restaurant.

Apparently the chap that took it was asked to do so by some mysterious 3rd party and contacted the owner when he saw it posted on Facebook, well that's the story he told anyway. Why anyone would go and move a car for someone they don't know and then keep it rather than deliver it to them seems very questionable. It does seem that whoever took it wasn't aware of its Internet fame tho as it was returned as soon as it was posted all over Facebook. It seems more likely that some chancer saw what they thought was a dumped car and took their chance with it. As wrong as that is, it was also bound to happen at some point with how it was left and for so long. Hopefully this gives the owner a kick up the to find some proper storage for it because next time some scrote takes a chance on it, he might not get it back.

Seems to be a blame game playing out here apportioning blame to the 'spotters'. Whilst I'm sure no-one condones theft I think a lot of people can understand it slightly when you have a disinterested / neglectful owner who'll park an interesting vehicle up in a place where it is easily visible then leave it there to rot into the ground.

I always look at it from the point of view that, if that car is worth, say, £10K, would the owner have thought any differently about leaving £10K in cash in the car park under a tarpaulin... Some of the cars reported stolen here make you want to go and kick the owners hard up the a**e.

This has just popped up for sale on Facebook market place. Had to do a quick search because I couldn't remember if it had been recovered after it was stolen m.facebook.com/marketplace/item/392118165459607/?ref=browse_tab&tracking=%7B"qid"%3A"6905520275336018866"%2C"mf_story_key"%3A"3516018718482090"%2C"commerce_rank_obj"%3A"%7B%5C"target_id%5C"%3A3516018718482090%2C%5C"target_type%5C"%3A0%2C%5C"primary_position%5C"%3A244%2C%5C"ranking_signature%5C"%3A14357495849943040%2C%5C"commerce_channel%5C"%3A501%2C%5C"value%5C"%3A1.1798342553826e-8%2C%5C"upsell_type%5C"%3Anull%7D"%7D
