As you might remember my garage door as a gate, forum.retro-rides.org/thread/171594/double-garage-door-auto-frozenAfter that, 80tons of road chipping were delivered for the drive, and then my stunned neighbour saw it all, and said he would come back with a shovel in a few mins and help...Turned out the shovel was a JCB type one, and made short work of the drive. now I need a dry area to work under.... This area... Redneck carport spot by Nel5on69, on Flickr So my redneck carport kitset arrived, Redneck carport kitset. by Nel5on69, on Flickr And I "found" a new plasma cutter (Ebay £150 one"Cut50") and a bandsaw in my garage, my wife is always stunned that I find the equipment I need, when I need it in my garage! Dig some holes, sling in some posts, bang up the curves and a roof...then all done! (this weekends already buggered, I expect it will take a month or so, if the rain keeps up!)

Sunday, This involved welding steel and cutting concrete....post all in and set...now the rebuild. 3 inline by Nel5on69, on Flickr Due to Rain, dust, welding, I didnt get many photos....seemed to rain every 20mins, so put everything under cover, 5mins later pull it all back out again! Posts painted, tags welded on, fence set back together. Post with tags by Nel5on69, on Flickr Now disappointing as it mostly looks the same. Wanted to get the top beam on this weekend, but due to weather and family this didnt happen. (some welds might be "re-dressed" later)

Nothing is as easy as "Facebook" makes out...but back on to it... Top plate on posts, all by myself...bit heavy this one. Top cap on by Nel5on69, on Flickr Set the levels, as i'm putting a arch on a triangle frame...so its not easy. Not good at Maths, so had to do it the hard way, and lift heavy steel. Dumpy level by Nel5on69, on Flickr 2 arches by Nel5on69, on Flickr Got a level, but the new side is a 7mtr run, so I did it without supports....then I will dig holes, welds the posts on, then concrete them in...easy I think? Long run by Nel5on69, on Flickr Everybody has their views, but I think the welds are coming one well so far (been watching YouTube vids to learn) Weld1 by Nel5on69, on Flickr

I'm sure someone will know. will I be able to "curve" the corrugated plastic to this (7.5m, 600mm chord)arch? Its the most cost effective way to have strength and light.

How are you going to handle the drainage? Understanding neighbour? My plan is to have the gutter sit onto the top plate you can see now. Kinda start the roof 100mm inside my fenceline.(purlins will raise the roof panels another 75mm higher) I will offer to share the water with them if they want it otherwise it will be into IBC tanks for car washing water.

Plasma cutter is great!!!D one tonight in ten mins, including setup Like a hotwire through butter! Plasma by Nel5on69, on Flickr Someone will not think this is great, but I'm OK with it, and will finish up with the grinder. Plasma cut by Nel5on69, on Flickr Mostly I got the plasma cutter to cut the gussets for the joins, bit of extra strength cant hurt, but that will be closer to the end of the build.

(had to fix it, with a hair bobble as a belt, to get it spinning too) I used to help my Stepfather build retaining walls and large concrete in my early years(10-15), so learnt a bit there, but I'm trying to be a business man in the week ( or at least trying to get EMAS UK setup correctly) and DIY or a Father to 2 girls most weekends.

Coming on well though. That plasma cutter looks a good bit of kit. I will be building a carport of my own soon although it will be timber so that my poor old SD1 stays out of the worst weather.

Sat, Sunday Counter weight by Nel5on69, on Flickr Fitted one arch...again no help, so had to improvise. Next up was to add tags for the Purlins to attach too, Purlin tags by Nel5on69, on Flickr Welded 40 tags on, and drilled them too. Bit of painting, want it to look "light" so white Purlins and silver Hammerite paint on the archs. Painted purlins by Nel5on69, on Flickr Which ended up with a black and white patchy dog. Painting purlins by Nel5on69, on Flickr Drove to Gloucester to get some 2nds "heavy duty" clear PVC 39 sheets for not very much, so was worth the drive. No glory this weekend, just work to set up for the following weekends, no instant Facebook finish here.
