When I had my new garage wired I also had a couple of external doubles fitted while the sparky was on it. Just in case I want to use my Karcher ( or other stuff) and I don't want a power lead from the inside to the outside.

don't you just hate it when your ocd for pefection kicks in? Started to fit black cable conduit with the thinking the white looks grubby after a while, but now I've got this far I don't like it   Soooooooooo..........took all the unused fittings & tube back to wholesalers and traded it all in for white  Now I'm going to have to redo all the black (well, nearly all of it) in white fittings & tube, ho hum  |

Hmm - I did mine in white and its now getting a little discoloured but a wipe over with a little panel wipe and it comes up ok

Yes, it was wiping down some dirty white tubing fitted for the lighting with a bit of thinners which brought it up like new that planted the seed. I've got a lot further than the photo (unfortunately) but the black just brings the walls in effectively shrinking the garage.

Looks like it’s coming on well! Certainly getting garage envy, really itching to get my own  Will the infrared heater be the only heat source for the garage? |

I find fan heaters work well but I may fit electric convection heaters on the walls, not sure yet. It's fairly warm already and I've not sealed the doors or gables properly yet.

We already have outside power leads on house for that, but also I have plugs sited by all doors & windows so its easy to pop a cable through any of those. |

.............aaaannnd all is well in the world again  nice white conduit - the bit of black that is left I can live with as its bigger bore anyway (triple cables in that part) and the shelves will hide it.  Compressor gets it's own dedicated supply.  And the final two joist sealing panels go in, they will be primed tomorrow.  |

I have replaced our 10 flurio's with these T8 tubes from LampShop Online and they made such a difference on our quarterly bill saved about £80 I have since replaces all of house bulbs with Led packs from Screwfix and it has halved the bill for the house and garage but you have to do it all at once to see the benefit.

Dust in the atmosphere is an explosive, and electrical lights in dust laden environments are a suitable source of ignition to cause the dust to ignite, and consequently explode.
Just look at flour-mills, coal mines, etc... You may care to look at www.smc-safety.co.uk/further-hse-enforcement-notices-issued-at-bosley-wood-flour
In my own garage and workshop I have daisy-chained flourescent strip lighting; the strip lights have dust-proof covers and all of the wiring is in conduit. A visiting contract manager for a local electrical company queried how I knew about possible explosion risk with lights? A previous occupation involved dealing with substances that can burn rapidly, if ignited in the correct manner. Not rocket science but frightening when you know something of that field.
Back to lights, are all LED lights sealed in a manner which is different to flourscent lights? I'm just curious to know that's all. Right back to reading the thread and to see how things panned out.

Mark - The one thing that I would be concerned more than anything else would be the screws that hold the hinge fulcrum plates to the frame on the main doors - any chance that you could make / replace these with anti tamper fixings or fit some hinge bolts (fit on the edge side of the door that then slot into rebates on the frame) - but currently undo 4 screws and they can have the door off Also with wooden garage doors, it is sensible to fit three hook and band hinges to spread the weight of the door; stop the doors bowing in/out, which is more than likely with wooden doors; give additional security agaisnt scroats who cherish your possessions. You only need to fit TWO coach bolt maximum to the pin hinge, and ONE on the actual band hinge. Job's a good un. |

Flour dust is highly explosive - I don't believe general dust is though?? Certainly not an issue in garages at any rate. |

Funny you mention that - I fitted 3 hinges on the side gate I built so I have one spare as it stands. I've been toying with the idea of the third hinge - not sure yet. It's north facing so not prone to weathering like a south facing door. |

Well we now have 6 permanent wired (albeit spurs at present until the ring is completed) sockets to choose from - yay! Also permanently wired is the compressor & the extractor fan controller - yet to wire the fan to the controller. And we have a shelf! Needed to do this as they are beginning to warp sitting on the cold garage floor.  I need to get the other shelves up as well as the wallboards asap as time is running out for the NEC show and the car needs some TLC if it's to look its best for that. |

You can never have enough sockets.
I spent years tripping over extension leads when I worked in my mum’s garage, and vowed when I was in a position to have my own I’d have as many as possible. I’ve got 20 double sockets spread around, so far, which is much more useful. My current setup, like yours, is still subject to change, but I won’t be taking any out, that’s for sure!
