Oddly cant really remember, I must have been 21 before I had something that'd crack a ton. Guess my old Escort once it got the turned up flow, fun times.
Remember when I got my double ton though, that was fun. Banking at Papenburg has to be seen to be believed, going around a 50deg banked curve at 180mph+ feels like flying!

I cant remember but I remember doing work experience for a mechanic when I was about 14. The garage owner had a sapphire Cosworth which he'd being doing stuff to!? He took me out in it and we did 140mph down the A24 near Horsham, I'm pretty sure there was plenty left in it too. I enjoyed that day.
Disclaimer (that kind of speed is obviously very irresponsible on public roads)
edit, just doing the maths, I was 14 in 1993, when did sapphire cosworths come out?? I'm thinking I may have been a bit older, but it doesn't affect the thread.....

The Sappire Cosworth was made between 1986 and '92 if that helps with your maths.

In a Lada Riva Estate going down the runway at Elvington Airfield. There’s a collection of words that don’t often share the same sentence..... I need to know more bout this. I once got a Riva up to 80 on a long down hill stretch of A road, then discovered how bad the brakes were! That was one of the scariest self inflicted situations I've ever been in in a car. It was a 1500 Estate, can’t say I ever had a problem with the brakes, mine were always fine. From memory I had done the Weber carb swap when you fitted the (?) DGAS carb off a V6 Capri, though with the standard carb if you pumped it continually when approaching V-max you could dump a load of fuel into the engine which seemed to make it pick its skirts up a bit...... The Elvington bit was from my days with Airedale and Pennine MC, we ran the Yorkshire Classic rally and some of the tests were on the airfield, right down the bottom, hence the run down the strip in a powder blue Riva.

It was the day I got my licence... I was driving off an on-ramp onto a motorway and just kept it pegged.

Not sure of the first, but one of the most memorable was when I was working for Europcar, my boss and I had to collect a Granada Scorpio for Sarah Ferguson's dad, and the MD's Rover 827, actually owned by rover, and with us as a loan/demo, full body kit etc, collected the pair from Heathrow and then raced back to bushey, near Watford. The rover was quicker off the line than the ford, but I made up for that by revving the bo###cks off it in neutral and then dropping into drive, hey it's not my car! We arrived back at bushey house, old Europcar hq, to find the MD Stood in the carpark. My boss drove the Rover over to him, he didn't want anyone else to drive it, and parked up, nonchalant as you like. You know when something gets really hot, and when you switch off it sits there going 'ting ting ting' as it cools down? They're both doing that! MD to boss ' David, I hope you have been careful with my car?' My boss, absolutely straight faced, ' Sir, I have driven your car as it was designed to be driven' I had to run into reception before I started laughing.

As a passenger probably on way back from hospital after getting cut out of my mum knowing how my dad drives. As a driver I was 14 in a Astra GSi, a group of us used to race on a local road and I had a go in my mates car. Don't know how we did it when I drive down there now it's not used enough to degrade but it's sketchy at 60.
Its definitely less of an achievement than it used to be. My diesel Saxo will sit at 105 on the flat and hit the governor at 115 downhill, I still sit cars on the peg fairly often, it's usually one of my first aims when I buy something lol.

Best I got out of my 1993 Panda Selecta was an indicated 100 mph, but felt a bit deflated when the GPS showed it had been 93mph the CVT gearbox never worked the same after that.

As a driver, I never have.
As a passenger, just once in a friend's Ford Mustang on the A43 near Silverstone.

As a contractor for JLR, I got an invite to a driving day at Milbrook when their E-Pace was first launched. Took the 300bhp variant up to 140 on the bowl circuit. That was quite fun. Also got invited to another driving event when the electric I-Pace came out last year, although this was on public roads. And if anyone from JLR is reading this, I absolutely did not accidentally get the I-pace to 110 on the M6 because it was so quiet the speed just sort of snuck up on me... honest.

My first car an anglia with 1600GT engine and rocket box would do 100mph used to suprise all the then modern cars when I was late for work and hurtling flat out down the A12.
Fastest was when I worked on Escort Cosworth development, I was probably 23 years old not long out of uni and sent to the factory in Rheine to look at a driveline noise, turned out the noise happened at speeds over 140mph, so we spent 2 days testing going up and down a local (thankfully hardly used) stretch of autobahn at approaching 150mph.

Way back when I was 10 (1984) in a white Rover SD1 V8 with my step dad driving. I remember well the sound of that engine on full chat, one that still gives me goose bumps even now. This was the very moment I got the SD1 bug and still own them even today. Fastest SD1 I have ever owned is the one as my avatar 156 mph, I didn't tune it or build it, didn't even know what parts were in the engine 100% but it was stupid fast with so much torque if you got too lairy it would spin you in a heart beat.

I can’t remember exactly but I think I was 17 or 18 and I was with my older mate in his brother’s VR6 Golf using hand controls! (his brother was in a wheelchair) It was showing an indicated 155mph when the 850i he was racing pulled away like we were stood still. My dad’s tale is cooler though. MK10 Jag, Kingston Bypass
