Your quite good at this aren't you! To save time and heart ache I just open my model kits and deposit them straight in the bin along with £30.... P.

Thanks to Royal Mail, my paint finally arrived after a fortnight. The wheels, floorpan and interior panels are done so I can get the chassis built.

Front beam mounted to the floorpan. Quite happy with the way the wheels are sitting. The back is next. Lowering it looks pretty simple, the tricky part is getting the camber looking right.

Ride height now set. Pretty much everything bar the body is painted and ready to go.

Chassis is built. I'm now working on the body. It's a lovely quality moulding so it's almost a shame to attack it with 100 grit but you can't make an omelette..... What I'm aiming for is the cal look Beetle of my early teenage dreams. The only chrome will be the bumpers, window surrounds, and maybe the handles.

Are you going to make some styrene 48 IDA's? That would be great.

Are you going to make some styrene 48 IDA's? That would be great. 😃 It would but I fear it's beyond the capability of my sausage fingers. When I did this stuff as a kid I only really did ERTL AMT 3 in 1 kits so I had a big box of spares. Hence I built a BMW 635 with Boyd wheels and put the BMW wheels on a Mustang and so on. My spares pile now is none-existent. The Beetle really needs bigger wheels on the back bit it'll do.

Update time. I primed and flatted the body but there were a few bits I wasn't happy with and I managed to snap the scuttle. I fixed that and reprimed it and this time I've snapped the front panel. I've fixed that so now I need to prime the front again. It may get the top coat eventually.

Looking at your skill level with the cars, I have no doubt you could make some carbs, sausage fingers or not. Here's a link to a guy who does 1/64th stuff. This video he's making engines.

The interior is now complete and I've trial fitted the body with it in place. Something is stopping it sitting quite right. This will be resolved when there isn't a border collie begging for a walk.

I needed to get some paint on the underside of the body so I also flashed over the body to see if there were any sanding marks showing. Aside from a couple of bits around the front it's all good.

After what feels like weeks of rubbing down, the topcoat is finally on. Nice gloss straight from the can too.

Trial fit of the body shows it's still a shade off at the front so some tweaks are needed. It needs a day or two for the paint to harden first.

The glass is in and the body is now on the floorpan permanently. I only got glue on two of the windows. This is definitely progress.

This project got parked in April because of a gardening/summerhouse project for my wife's 50th. The garden is finished but the Beetle has just sat on the shelf. My kids got me a Stratos and a Model T to build for Christmas so I really need to crack on. To that end the headlights and hubcaps are on. Only the wipers and tail lights are needed. Model T is next. My plan is to lose all of the brass and the wings and build a TROG racer.

Great paintwork on the pickup - I keep meaning to try stuff like that! Regarding your Model T, that's a reboxed ICM kit, and they already do a Speedster version, which may be a better option for what you mentioned: www.scalemates.com/kits/icm-24015-model-t-1913-speedster--1122652It is also available with passengers (they are available separately, but cheaper as the combo set than buying both individually): www.scalemates.com/kits/icm-24026-model-t-1913-speedster--1304010However your Revell two seater T is probably better than ICM's own boxing, due to Revell's comprehensive decal sheet with all the coachlining. I only got glue on two of the windows. This is definitely progress. Are you using the regular Humbrol / Revell polycement for the windows too? If so, try Humbrol Clearfix (or similar), or even PVA for the glazing parts, as it will clean off wihtout leaving marks. It works very nicely on headlights etc too, and doesn't fog them. (Apologies if I'm teaching you to suck eggs...)

Tips, hints and suggestions are always welcome. Even if I was aware of something, others looking in may not be. I decided that finishing the Beetle was boring so I've made a start. The plan for the body is matt black brush painted with the sanding marks left as is. The only thing I'm wondering about is the seat. A Chesterfield style bench might not be in keeping. A bit of research is needed I think.
