Now come on NudgerSS, after the amount of time you've been out there I thought you'd have one of those hats with the corks to keep the flies off?? #stereotype š Have you started ending every sentence like it's a question? I think we're all jealous of the weather!!!

I think we're all jealous of the weather!!! Does my ruddy nut in. I pretty much have to repeat myself 3 times to get my broad Derbyshire accent understood. The wife reckons I've got even broader since I came out here. I refuse to fit in! š As for looking like an Aussie... Well a head like mine deserves a big hat.

That's no good!!!! No corks.....Me duckš³ The flies weren't too bad in Sydney. Perth on the other hand is a different story. You don't know the meaning of persistence until you've come across Australian flies. I walk around like I've got Tourettes!

It's an XH Falcon Ute. No Barra in these single ohc 4.0 six or 5.0 Windsor V8. Created by adding the front end of a EF falcon onto the cab and tray of previous gen XG ute, which itself was based on the XD which came out in 1979!

Holden is rather beautiful.
You possibly made his day again, as others would have before, talking about what is obviously a pride and joy car.
Love the colour too.

That's a really nice HR 'Special'. Also available as a 'Standard' (minus two-tone paint work, amongst other things), and 'Premier', which was the luxury model. My parents bought a brand new station wagon version of this car in the same colour scheme in 1967, the year before I was born. It was a run-out model because the all-new Holden Kingswood was about to replace it. We were living in Marble Bar at the time, often touted as the hottest place in Australia. There were (still are!) lots of unsealed roads in the middle of nowhere. Dad used to drive that thing like it was a Toyota Landcruiser, ploughing through creek beds and over gravel roads. It never missed a beat and was easily repairable if any issues ever arose. Apologies for the nostalgia and momentary thread hi-jack!

No need to apologise youāre more than welcome to share photos and memories. It brightens up what Iām sure is a bit of a monotonous thread. Keep thinking about adding bits about our temporary life in Australia but not sure thatās what folks are on here for.

I believe Special may have had carpet while Standard had rubber mats. Not sure I've ever seen a Standard irl though, only Specials and Premiers.

Taking out your classic car is not much of a problem here. Besides idiots on the road a classic car and it's owner have little to fear of the elements. My experience is that classic cars are often respected and looked after by other road users as well. Older cars here are in normal use. My son drives his '97 318Is daily to work doing about 120Km a day. It's 100% rust free and in really good condition. With nearly 300.000km on the clock it's not even close to retirement. In some parts of the world this would be seen as a great Retro machine and should be pampered as it is original, rust free, never painted etc.

Love it.

That Monaro takes me back to the first time I was a passenger in a V8 doing a swirly 11 up the road. Work colleague who was at best a bit of an old soak (11am smoko was in the pub over the road for a couple...) has his early original one like this on display in the Sydney motor museum (now condos apparently) but one of the conditions was that you had to take it for a run and a test every year or something like that. So one lunchtime (after said 11am smoko...) I went with him to fetch it. Bit of fresh fuel, a jump pack and a bit of coaxing we burble out of the museum. First thing this old boy does is to say need to clear its throat and gives it the beans. No power steering, not that wide tyres and a Corvette spec V8 with a half curse word rumey eyed 10 stone wet through old boy driver. Highly respectable 100m of 11's though. Interesting experience. Nice car though in a bronze metallic ! James It was the spit of this:
