Just putting the feelers out to see if someone on here would like to take this car on. I'm ready to admit defeat and let someone hopefully finish and enjoy it. It has a 1uzfe in it at the moment just had new belt water pump and rotor arms and has a full loom and fusebox/relays from phoenix engine management ready to plug in and get it running, will need the alloy radiator modding and ancillaries sorting out. Suspension wise it needs looking at, it has a bad air ride set up at the moment that is leaking and will need sorting. Good points are its as cool as a penguin in a freezer, will sound and go well, tax free mot free and I doubt you will see another (I read only 7 estates sold in UK) I've got a ton of money lost in this so I am just trying to claw a little back, I was thinking £5k, looking at the Japanese classic market I think that's reasonable and nowhere near what it owes me. What do you lot think? am I dreaming? I can answer any questions, get more pics etc. I would like it to stay on here if possible, I don't want to feel like I've let the car down and I know there are some talented folk on here who could make this amazing. Thanks Link to the thread on here forum.retro-rides.org/thread/207637/toyota-cressida-estate-recommendation-help

I think you should finish it and take the enjoyment out of it. I know that's not what is in your head and the whole experience has been soured - but the elation of having it done would far outweigh all of that.

I get where you're both coming from but I actually have no feelings for the car other than utter contempt (not the cars fault)
Every time I think about it, which for the past three years is everyday, I've felt depressed, helpless, hopeless, angry and desperate and after three years of that I don't want to do it anymore.
I've tried to think of how cool it will be when it's finished but I just can't get myself going with it, coupled with the fact I've got so much money in it that I feel completely selfish even considering putting more into it.
I know I will lose a lot of money by selling now but I would rather get a little back and hopefully someone can finish it and actually drive it.
I associate the car with the person that put me in this position and that's not healthy, nor conducive to actually liking the car, I want to draw a line under this whole bloody saga. Lesson learned.
Obviously it's difficult to price as is but £5k seems right to me, that's less than half of what I've got in it.
Is that too much or too little?
I genuinely have no idea

I know where you are coming from. I got a video yesterday from the lovely namless of the "work" done on the back end of my Sunny to get the Ford axle in there, it was the one bit of the car that I thought had been done almost properly. Turns out I was lucky the axle didn't sheer away from its new "mountings" or the strut top punch through the unreinforced top (even though I very specifically said this needed to be done). However I've got a stubborn determination now to see this thing done and how I want it. I can easily see how it could have gone the other way though, just need to search "unfinished projects" on ebay to find similar, either people running out of steam themselves, or getting done over by some workshop

Tony - I can see your dilemma - However you did mention a certain event in January (and well done for not making a public issue out of it) - if I was you I would hang onto it for now get through Jan - see how that goes and if you have a clearer vision once a line is drawn under that matter - I appreciate for you to let it go at this stage would clear your mindset of it but to a certain degree the party that got you to this stage with the car has won - I know its not all about winning but try to hang on in there - this time of year is not that great for selling motors especially part finished projects - If you can wait until Jan - reflect on where you stand after the event and go from there - if its still a very negative vibe then move it on but its probably a better market place from Feb onwards - Regardless of the outcome I just hope it does not overly sour your taste in the older / classic car scene - Chris

I can fully understand where you're coming from, i have thrown a chain tensioner through a window before because the car wound me up so much! However, please don't rush into a decision you'll regret later Is there someone/somewhere you can move the car to on a short term basis, particularly if you've got life getting in the way, and just ignore it until (a) you've got more time and (b) you can look at it after taking a step back I can appreciate not everyone has this opportunity, good luck whatever you decide!

Thanks for the kind words everyone, I know it seems like a snap decision but I have been thinking on this for some time now.
I honestly struggle to even look at the car because of what's happened and as soon as I decided it was going to be sold it was like a weight had been lifted, so I'm certain it's the right decision for me.
I appreciate others may take a different view but I have other things going on in my life at the moment too and if this was my only problem I may feel differently about it, who knows.
I don't have anywhere to store it and it has just been moved outside so I'm keen to find a new home for it so it doesn't suffer too much.
All that being said I have no idea what to price it at a couple of people have said it's worth way more than £5k even as it is and I have had an offer below that already too.
To be honest whilst I would like to get as much money back as possible, I would also like to see somebody do it justice, money is not the main motivator here.
I've always loved older cars and I always will just not this one and of course, I still have my Jag....

I think you are 100% right to let it go. Clear the decks and have a re-set.

It’s not often I want a car, but wow! This thing is incredible. I remember when you bought it and have lurked as you put your stamp on it.
If I hadn’t recently lost my job I would have already made contact with you.
Wanna swap for a nearly new CF Canyon Ultimate? 😄
I hope it goes to a worthy home, if you do make the decision to move it on!

The decision has been made it is for sale, £5k for a V8 70s uber rare Japanese wagon seems like a steal to me, hopefully someone else will agree with me. It isn't actually for sale in the correct section as of yet (sorry admins) I will do a proper ad soon, I really want someone on here to take it on I have no desire to sell it on a well known auction site. I realise timing is poor with it being Christmas but hey what a present for someone you love!

Say it did sell to someone on here and they get it sorted would it not make you feel like you wished you had stuck it out and sorted it?
We all have points on restorations where we think what the hell am I doing! It's so easy to get rid and get something else.

That's the thing I do want to see it finished and be enjoyed, something that I couldn't do after all that's gone on. I won't be replacing it with something else, I still have my Jag X300 manual and that is definitely a keeper.

It does sound like the right decision. Once you talk about feeling a weight lifting, then you realise how much of a burden it was, and I would wish no-one to live under a burden, especially one as easily removed as an old, non-essential car. Hopefully there will be an amazing thread on here in the next few months where the new owner will have it rocking.

What point would this need to reach ,for you to feel the weight is off your shoulders and you would be prepared to carry on with it?😊
