Hi All,
For sale is my BMW e36 touring (manual gearbox). Here's the story and brief details. PM me or text/ call on the number at the end of the add for more info...
The car is an M43 engined 318i SE in (I think) Orient Blue. Cam chain. I bought this as a stop gap dog wagon back in summer 2019 while I was working on my Volvo. I'd had a load of E30s back in the day but never an e36 so there was a bit of itch scratching going on. I got it from one of the staff writers on Total BMW magazine and I understand it's been featured in the mag a fair few times. Fast forward 6 plus months and it's still doing sterling duties while the Volvo reels from one set back to another but it's time, finally, for it to go now.
The car has been used to commute daily to Leeds and back (28 miles) plus sundry evening and weekend dog ferrying duties round West Yorkshire and proved itself 100% reliable. That kind of punishment was unfair probably and mileage is now a gargantuan 202k but its had regular oil changes while I've had it.
I've done circa 12k miles in that time and while it's no fireball it will cruise at above national speed limits and/ or bobble along in the M62 rush hour jams. It now needs a bit of love but it's all bitty stuff for a retro rider and is still a pretty little car which will make a nice weekend messer or engine swap project. It's solid and straight with minimal surface rust and no rot. There's a scab on the tailgate and one low down on the passenger wing but nothing for one of these really. Tourings seem to have a bit of a following now and I reckon it's priced fairly for what it is.
Being the SE it has leather interior, reversing sensors, air-con, working sunroof, electric windows/ mirrors etc..
MOTd until the end of April and currently taxed but if you want tax to get it home, don't hang around.
It will need for sure - one rear tyre (shoulder wear following some replacement suspension parts and not getting the tracking done) and maybe a rear brake refresh. Handbrake is fine. Biggest issue is an oil leak which I thought was the oil filter housing cover but now suspect is the housing gasket - it's coming from that area anyway. Still fine to drive but needs sorting and I have no time to give it now. No service history to speak of but had a clutch and thermostat just before I picked it up. The clutch is ace actually.
Other issue is a periodic hot start problem which could be a crank sensor. It always starts but sometimes needs 3 or 4 turns of the key when hot. The only other thing I can think of is the radio ariel has packed in (it's a rear window filament job) but otherwise, there's aKenwood Sony Xplod CD player for tunes.
It is what it is - a good looking cheapo rising star which needs a bit of weekend love.
If anyone's interested, for another £100 I can throw in these style 5s in VGC (one little chip on one wheel as pictured - all centre caps present)
Cheers for reading - Nick 07 eight five 7 8 nine 6 three 2 six (sensible o'clock please)
