Always been into German cars, 911 poster on my bedroom wall.
When my parents divorced my old man bought an E30 which was light years ahead of any car owned by my family. That had a huge influence on me. Later my step dad had an E28 in gold with a brown interior, again, wow.
So far managed to have both the Bm's, it's not looking too hopeful for the 911.
My daughter is 5 and wants my 924 as does my 2 year old son so it obviously runs in the family.

It was all somebody else's fault. I have a cousin, she's ten years older than me. She used to babysit. She had two great influences on me. One was her tales of South East Asia, having been brought up in Singapore where her dad was stationed after the war. This set off an abiding desire to see the region. And look where that got me! The other was vehicles. When she could afford one, she turned up with one of these... M'okay, but not really my cup of tea. Never really been much of a bike fan. She had several. A few years later, it was one of these... Now we're getting somewhere. Can't fall off this one! Then I'd be about 14 when she turned up with one of these... Wow, just wow! The earth moved, and everything. Mum had promised me that if I never rode a motorbike, she'd buy me a car for my 17th. See above, this was not a problem. Would she buy me an Alpine? Would she hellers like. So the ubiquitous Mini it was, like so many of us I assume. Anyway, she wanted to trade up her 1300 Estate to a Maxi, and decided that I could throw in the Mini (good job too, I'd ragged it to death) and we'd share the new car. So we did. As you can imagine, an irresponsible 18-year-old sharing a car with his Mum was never going to work. Never, ever. Plus I hated the thing with a passion! So I saved like mad and... For the princely sum of 250 quid, it was mine. The saving had been for the bloody insurance! Dream realised.

I always wanted a 1.3L Escort mk3 in Sunburst Red as a kid and i often thought about making a Sleeper out of one in lessons... although i didnt know thats what it was called or people were actually doing it. Couldnt get one when i passed my test in 2005 as my folks bought me a saxo (they said Escorts were curse word... and they probably were right). In 2013 i found this 1.1 mk3 in some sort of Red. It looks better now and had a few re sprays, proper wheels and a lot of welding later. I think the 1.1 engine is better than the CVH too so very happy. coming up to 60k and needing a bit of a good old service though.

This Mustang. was a 1972 Mach 1 in orange with big chrome Cragar-style wheels. It was brash, loud, sounded like God gargling rocks and I utterly adored it. I first saw it as a 13-year old when it was driving around Clacton, and when I saw it was for sale I desperately tried to convince my Dad to buy it, or even test drive it. Sadly, he didn't share my boundless enthusiasm. It's still on the road, but I somehow doubt it'll be for sale at the 1986 price. heres a photo of it at Castle Combe, not sure if the picture was taken in 2011, or just uploaded to flickr at that time. enjoy Ford Mustang Mach1, NLL 208K by Alan, on Flickr

I sort of feel bad for this, since it's such a generic choice for people around my age. But I was a teenager during the "max power" phase, when the R34 was pretty much the king of everything. I'm not so interested nowadays, but back then...

Teenager covers a LOT of time for car lust. I guess the start was this: ...most likely because I had seen one on a summers day and heard it, thereby starting an obsession with something. Over time, that migrated to this... ...again based nowhere on the actual performance, reliability or real world image. I should note that at this point it may have been more hormone based, as there are big sexy curves, thumping big V8, but more than anything else really, it probably boiled down to Brenda Bakkes legs in American Gothic. Then after a while the vehicular lust varied almost every week, although more often than not settled on a MK3 supra simply because the potential of actually owning one was realistic. I did own a few in the end, but forgot to keep them. Really do need to address that, actually.

I still want it (Although I would probably lose the whitewalls now!) Didn't want one as a teenager, really did want one while I was watching "Saxondale"... I always remember the one in Diamonds Are Forever. Seem to remember there is a continuity mistake when he goes down the narrow alley by tipping the car. It goes in on its nearside wheels & comes out on its offside.

I was into Sepecat Jaguars more than E-Types in my youth and my bedroom was a celebration of Airfix and Warplane Magazines and only when learning to drive did I get into cars as I couldn't afford a plane lol My father worked at Lenham Motor Company in his teens and when I was a kid we used to get dragged to Brands, Lyden and Arlington fairly regularly where he'd tell various stories from the circuits he'd visited. Consequently I wanted an MG Midget when I learnt to drive. Budget was £1000 for the car and only one place would insure it for £1500.
A Morris Minor suggestion was made and that was £200 to insure. I bought an issue of Custom Car the month after getting the car as it had a poster of this this Green Pro Street Minor with a supercharger level with the roof on the cover and that set me for life.
Around the same time my cousin bought at Cal look beetle and we went to various VW show. Flat Out blew me away and I had photos of that and posters of Gary Ellis', Nick Cooks & Julian Coles Minors on my wall for the next few years

Despite growing up in the late 90s/early 2000s, I was bought up on a mix of Professionals, Sweeney and Blakes 7, so naturally.... And my first car, was indeed a Dolly Sprint, athough sadly, not white. Dolomite Sprint at Kenilworth Castle by Robert Seymour, on Flickr

As a teen, Group B were all over the stages so the ugly bug 6R4 and the evocative RS200 pulled on my heart strings....still quite partial to a Lancia Rallye 037 even now!
Also the Sweeney and the Consul inspired love for those and Mk1 Granada.

First car magazine I ever bought in 1985 when I was 13, still have it. The GTO was a perfect mix of beauty and brawn, just need a Euromillions win... A family member worked in a Fiat dalership in the 70s and 80s, always wanted a 127 Sport or a 128 3P. I managed to buy a 127 Sport in 1997. My brother has possibly the only rhd silver one left in the UK or Ireland

Still kind of want one.
