Escort RS Turbo, albeit I wanted a Series 2 back then, not a 1. I'd never have taken an S2 over an S1, ever. Though, I'd have taken an RS1600i over either and still would! I always like a bit of controversy . I guess my reasons back then were varied: -I hadn't seen that many RST S1s back then, but I had seen a few clean ones. To me then the Mk3 looked dated rather than classic -My dad having a Sierra Sapphire GLS, and shortly after an '89 spec Mercury Grey XR3i kind of steered me there too ; the S2 in my eyes anyway looked similar to the Sierra . -The burble. For me, that was the one thing that sealed my fate ; that hynotic burble from the turbocharged CVH . Hearing S1s and S2s with their stainless systems made me want one badly for years and years. It wasn't until years later than I started preferring the S1, as the dashboards then looked better and had some nicer touches ; Honda thought they were first with the driver centric heater controls . Albeit in a few ways they are flawed compared to an S2 (brakes were a joke in stock form on the S1, even by the standards of the day, as was the lack of an unbaffled fuel tank; that caught me out quite a bit, especially when I got decent braking power); My S1 being tuned and fettled with did help get around that, but it was more than I wanted it to be; I wanted 160BHP rather than the 230BHP mine had, but rot was the one thing I didn't want to deal with. I did almost buy an RS16i over my S1, but the burble won . I'd never have taken an S2 over an S1, ever. Though, I'd have taken an RS1600i over either and still would! You saved me saying that, the S1 RST is the best looking car Ford ever made! Depends. GT40, and the Sierra RS500 make for some pretty stiff competition . But yup, a nice S1 does look great.

If we're making a list of the coolest looking English Fords ever then the Consul 315 and the Mk3 Zodiac have to be strong contenders.

The first car that I ever truly fell in love with was an Iris Blue Bugeye Sprite. It was at a used car dealer in my home town - and being a Sprite I could open the door and sit in it. It had a hardtop and I rode my bike 10 miles to ask the dealer what he wanted for it $350.00 though it could have been $35,000 for all the money I had. But if I could go back in time. The other was a 69-70 Boss 302. Still if I won the lottery (buy a ticket!) this would still be one of the very few American cars on my list

Not quite a teenager but I've just bought the car I've lusted after since 2000, a Bora 4motion. I wasn't a teenager, but I remember the first time I saw a Bora (on holiday in Scotland) and thinking how good they looked, so much better than the equivalent Golf mkiv!

Prior to passing my test I wanted a Triumph Spitfire or a SWB Landrover.
What I really wanted though was a BMW Z3M coupe or an Audi TT in the gloss solid grey with the brown ‘baseball stitched’ leather.
Well, I got the SWB prior to passing my test, great choice for outings.
About 5/6 years ago I scratched the Z3M itch too. Wow, what a great car, flawed? ‘Yes’ but immensely entertaining to drive and attempt to control. It blends old and new so well, squat chassis, 300bhp, no traction and good feel through the steering wheel.
Actually, the more I think about it, the more the list could go on.l . . . Integrale, 155, Esprit V8, Landrover 101FC. Ok, stopping now before I apply a dose of ‘man maths’ and really annoying the missus.

Mum and Dad both had Sierra Cosworths in the 90s growing up, he had an RS500 left to me and my brother when he died in 2003. Being 12 and 9 respectively it was agreed to sell it as it would sit in a damp garage for at least 10 years, split the money, buy another when we could. Sold for 3500 in 2003, 1750 does not a Cosworth buy you now other than that it was and still is a dream to use a General Lee on the school run, was going to hire one for my wedding but it cost as nearly as much as out wedding did on it's own, so that idea got scrapped. Dream car now? A 1.6L 3 door Sierra, in blue. Thatd do me, it's what my dad had and what I spent most of my childhood in. Again, probably wont happen now with family life and the way prices have gone but one day.

Alas, my first car having passed my test in 1988 was a hand-me down from my gran, bless her, a 1973 Fiat 126 with the earlier 594cc air-cooled engine, with just 17,000-odd miles on the clock (but already a worn clutch!). I was of course, grateful to have any car, but soon felt somewhat ashamed of it, bearing in mind my friends and neighbours of similar age had 'proper' cars with four-pot engines such as Minis, Mk1 Escorts, Vauxhall Chevettes, VW Beetles, etc., while some lucky gets at college had Ford Escort XR3s and Montego Turbos as their first cars! TBH, it was pretty awful to drive: gutless, susceptible to the slightest of sidewinds from passing lorries, sloppy steering (box), lousy brakes and demisting, oh and of course, rust, never mind the grim dog smell that pervaded the interior. I did once see an indicated 80mph out of it, foot to the floor on a motorway decline though! I was very glad to be given my 1970 Minor Traveller when I turned 18, and handed it back to my gran, only for her to ask me to take it back some years later, whereupon it largely sat unused in the garage until I sold it to someone from oop North, who I gather still uses it on steam rallies, etc. I later owned a 1998 Fiat Cinquecento SX, which was leagues ahead of the 126 in terms of overall dynamics, and quite an enjoyable and practical car to use, plus it returned 70 mpg!

Another car I lusted over was from over 20 years ago in the old vdub scene - It was a slammed razoredge karmann ghia owned by someone or was called Professor Foglamp. It had a large yellow foglamp on the rear bumper, slammed to within an inch of it's life, was rat-look before anyone coined the phrase and it was drop. dead. gorgeous. Everything about this car is so stunning - The single line running at the same height front to rear, the sharp, mean eyebrows with the lights - almost like professor snape - the rear lights frenched into the wing, the glorious amount of glass.... I would look at that car nearly as much as Sam Fox and Maria Whittaker ..... Pic of a cleaner, not as meaner one, oh that rear camber ....

The first time I saw a Rancho as a kid I just wanted one - it was the coolest car I'd ever seen despite spending many of my formative years at Prescott Hill climb And the Espace was a close second - it was just so Space 1999.
