The first time I saw a Rancho as a kid I just wanted one - it was the coolest car I'd ever seen despite spending many of my formative years at Prescott Hill climb The Rancho falls into the related category of "Cars I wanted my Dad to buy" back in the day, along with a Lamborghini Espada (4 seats so room for me and sis, its a family car obviously!) That's funny I was exactly the same, one used to sit on my street and I thought it was the coolest thing ever!
I also had a run in my Dads mates new, white 3dr Cosworth when I was about 7 or 8, loved them ever since.

Well i'l be upfront and say the ride i wanted most during my teenage years was to pop my cherry I'll be upfront and say I should have stuck with the idea of the aforementioned Dutton rather than chasing ladies!!! ...if I knew then what I know now etc!

a 205 gti 1.9 in Miami blue.
Also a Renault 5 GT Turbo Raider.
Fast forward 15+ years and I did (wife did) own a red 205 gti 1,9 road rally car. Was a right laugh to throw round but really underpowered in comparison to more modern basic cars. Loved it for the 3 years we owned it

1. Talbot Rancho 2. 1987 Porsche 911 3. Scimitar GTE
All seen in the street as a kid and they all imprinted in my head.
Wish I can stretch to a Porsche but alas I'm poor

Would have been happy with either of these: Plus I also had a thing for these: And especially these: Basically anything big and a bit fast and a bit saloony.

Hi had 2 Scorpio’s in the 90’s, both black with black leather. They were my Dads ex company cars. The first was an E’reg 12v the second was a J’reg 24v Cosworth. Pretty much identical to the one you show (minus the boot spoiler) epic car that was.

Lotus cortina mk1 or Henry hi rise mk2 consul Or any mk1 escort!! Never did own a lotus , had over 200 mk1 escorts though! I’ll never forget seeing that consul in my local high St Back in the early 80s And still to this day if I could own any car it would be that consul The place that owns this - Roberts motor bodies - use it quite regularly. I remember walking to the shops and this massive loud burbling thing pulls up and the driver pops into to the Co-Op. I used to live local to it, so heard it more often than I saw it. Also saw it at Carfest running in anger.

I was at secondary school at the perfect time for cars, in my opinion - Something back then about fords - XR4i, XR3i, XR2, RS Cosworth etc would be the coolest car ever to be picked up in.
I lived within walking distance from the school and asked my mum's BF at the time to pick me up in his brand new white Mk4 escort XR3i. He obliged and nearly everyone from the school watched completely gobsmacked at my classy ride home!
I don't think any other standard affordable car back then made anywhere as much impact as the ford range of that era.
At six form, a mate of mine was lucky enough to pass his test really early, and watching him drive into school in his mum's convertible XR3i with all these girls swooning is something I will never forget.
What was it about certain cars at the time that made everyone gawp?! I remember going to a boot fair and seeing a brand new at the time Y reg black xr4i in the car park, and there were at least 50 people just staring at it, almost as if it had been beamed down from the moon. Such a ballsy move from ford at the time but boy did it stand out in amongst the other cars around in 1984 ....
