Lamppost looks great. I’ve managed to finally change the pump in the rainwater tank only to find after last weeks rain re filling the tank that the new pump does not work and is out of warranty! 😡 Particularly miffed as I bought British and from the company who supplied the tank in the first place. Question now is do I give them one last chance or spend more on an alternative from the likes of Grondfoss or similar? How long have you had the pump, and has it been used, or just sat in the box? Might be worth firing off an email to the manufacturer to see if there’s any sort of goodwill claim. What have you got to lose? I did speak to the manufacturer before installation as I discovered damage to the casing that wasn’t immediately apparent and I wanted to check it was safe to put it in the tank. Even though it had never been used they weren’t really very interested as I’d had it for just over two years and it was out of warranty. However, I have some good news - got the pump to work😁 Did some more investigation and testing and ended up needing to replace the power supply cable nothing obviously wrong but power going in one end and nothing out the other! Two lessons learned from this: 1. Thoroughly check all boxed deliveries upon receipt! 2. Double check that you do have a complete circuit before buttoning everything up & don’t rely on the idiot light🙄

Thanks for kind words guys, but this is strictly for family, I have been making cakes for the kids for years! My mum would string me up if she thought I was slacking off, she’s a professional cook ( now retired) ,I have a lot to live up to! 😳

Next week Ive got a load of soil to move so to keep up with the man on the digger this old trailer got adapted, its too far gone to ever be road worthy but its ideal for lugging stuff about on our patch Axle relocation to help with the tipping I altered the hitch some time ago so it swivels On the back of the tractors 3 point link system it does this which should make it a bit easier to unload!

Any children's TV programme that can sneak Apocalypse Now references in there is fine by me. The episode with the tadpoles made me howl when I first saw it because of how uncannily similar the tadpoles were to my year 10 form at the school I was working at, and my wife even nicknamed her special group at her school The Squirrels after the group on the programme. One child apparently will always be known as Roly... Best kids TV programme in 35 years.

I do love a chimnea on the patio (usually through the autumn & winter months) & I have literally burned the ar$e out of my current B&Q job, so I thought I’d do a gas bottle version. I didn’t want the usual small thing, so I went for the largest of the bottles. I marked out a bit of a rough idea Cut out the chimney hole & front openings I wanted an oven in the top, so that is what the top flap is for I got the laser cutter I use to knock me a couple of plates up. One for the fire tray & one for the oven floor So as you can see, the chimney goes through the oven with the fire beneath, that oven will be properly hot (I can smell the leg of lamb & roast spuds now) the small pipe you can see on the side of the chimney is a Venturi. A hose fits on it with an old computer fan in it. Couple of crocodile clips onto a bike battery & as it blows up the pipe it obviously creates ‘up-draft’ in the chimney a makes the fire draw. Just one last point, as you can see, a welder I’m not, but kinda get by. 😀

I have found my welding got better after just finding lots of metal to weld on my bench and just keep going till i was finding it was less of a struggle and more like fun. Watching lots of guys like trev's blog and urchfab has taught me so much about what i was doing wrong and how to make panels, this was a moggy panel i made and had to weld in a new bit on the inner wing. Still got a long way to go but i'm happy with it.

I did a first ‘partial’ burn, should we call it. I used charcoal though, as it was a fairly pleasant evening & a few neighbours with washing out on their lines, if you burn wood it obviously smokes & stinks somewhat. It works way better than I anticipated & the draw up through the fire is brilliant. I roasted a couple of sweet potatoes in the oven section just for the hell of it & that too is spot on. Well pleased with it!
