So: I want to build a track car from a '99 Yaris that I've been driving for a few years (don't worry; my other car is a D reg 240 estate) I've come a bit of a cropper when it comes to finding bits. I have need of a cage and I have a want for a rear disc conversion. What I don't have is experience in buying things from the internet from anywhere other than amazon (and they didn't seem to have any ) Does anyone on here have any idea how I could progress...? Any help appreciated!!

Probably be as cheap to buy a Yaris T Sport and start with that rather than individual bits for a lower model. If you do want to do your own I wouldn't bother with a rear disk conversion, not worth the effort on a stripped out car.

You're definitely right, but I have a stupid sentimental attachment to the one I've got so; until its DEAD dead, this is the one its got to be. Believe me, I've thought about just getting a fiesta or a mini or an MX5 or whatever but I just don't fancy it. What does the T-sport have? Are they a 1.5 (my SR is a 1.3)? And buying a T-Sport doesnt solve my roll cage issue

The problem you've got is that not many people build Yaris track cars, so it's not exactly an off the shelf part. Might be worth getting in touch with a company like Safety Devices and see if they have ever done one or how much it would cost for a bespoke one - they didn't have anything listed in their "off the shelf" rollcages for a Yaris. www.safetydevices.com/motorsport/bespoke-developments/Chances are it won't be cheap.

OMP have 2 roll cages listed for a Yaris - one bolt in and the other weld in.

You seen the 1.8 one on Mighty Car Mods YouTube channel?

Whether you believe you can, or you cannot, you're probably right.

Tell me about it!! If I was sensible I'd buy a different car (but where's the fun in that!?!). Good shout mrbounce, I'll have a chat with them and see what they say. ems1 I'll have a look there now. I don't mind which style it comes in. Good to know they exist is all. Thanks for finding out! tristanh ummmm... no Yeah watched it the other day when doing related toyota research. I was looking at 1.8L engines on ebay after that.. (1 step at a time boys, one step at a time )

The problem you've got is that not many people build Yaris track cars Plenty of kids race them round the oval, they run in the same class as Nova's, they all have a pretty substantial cage in them.

And buying a T-Sport doesnt solve my roll cage issue T-Sport is a 1.5 stroked version of the 1.3 in the SR. The car is only known as a Yaris in Europe, so searching for the Vitz or XP10 (chassis code) may produce other search results in your research. I daily a 1999 SR, it's a great little nippy car, if a little skittish. T-Sport has a strengthened bodyshell and updated chassis

Might be worth checking out the regs for the series you are going to race in before modding too much. You’ll need to find out what’s allowed and what’s not. If it’s for track days etc then just follow your nose with what excites you :-)

Do you know of any good sources of info about the engines? I take it yours is a 1.3 (2NZ-FE) as well? Have you done anything to it? Mine has only put a foot wrong once, and even then I think it was a patch of diesel or something. If the T-Sort has a strengthened shell then I suppose that makes a better choice for an actual race car. (thinking out loud, if you can do that on a forum) Maybe I'll carry on building this thing and do a few track days until it blows up and then move across whatever parts I can to a T-Sport... lesgrandepotato You are completely right. I'll do a bit more digging as I go. A friend of a friend races a roadsport championship of some form that I cant remember the full name of. That was the kind of thing I was thinking of doing, nothing mental. But I will double check the regs again and see what they say.

I've not done anything to it or plan to, it's just a reliable shopping trolley for me, but I do like it a lot! I must admit, the tyres on the rear are just some budgets that came with it, which may account for the brown trouser moment I've experienced - ive come from driving larger RWD cars for many years, so also not used to finding every dip or trough in the road. It is indeed the same engine, which is pretty spritely if kept on the boil. I bought larger front discs (circa 20mm dia) in error, which I guess is possibly fitted to the TS - cheap and easy plug and play lap time.

How did I not see this!! Sorry dodgerover, where might I find some pics etc? I'll do a goodle in a bit but links are all appreciated! So, as to the series in question; a friend of a friend races in this: www.750mc.co.uk/formulae/roadsports.htmI don't imagine that I'd be anywhere near front running, but being competitive in class would be nice... evntually. Their class structure is as follows: Class Definition A – Super GT 300bhp/tonne B – GT 240bhp/tonne C - Supersport 180bhp/tonne D – Sport 145bhp/tonne So class D it is then!!
