So since everything is locked down, I thought I’d have a go at painting the spare wings for the Astravan
I had got hold of some colour matched aerosols, primer and lacquer just before lockdown.
So I prepped the 2 wings, primed them ok but when I painted I got fish eyes.
I thought it was the degreaser I was using (brake cleaner, as I hadn’t got anything else beforehand)
I got some panel wipe from a mate, and tried again and still got fisheyes.
The van isn’t perfect, so I carried on and sprayed over and seem to have got away with it (I will repair the original wings, get them sprayed properly and refit.. so if the paint isn’t going to last etc I’m not too worried)
But would be nice to know what I did wrong for the future
Tried again today, and tried spraying vertically, with similar problems
I wondered if my ‘spray booth’ didn’t have enough ventilation as everything seemed to take a while to flash off.
Obviously I haven’t got any facilities, but any tips for doing it better with what I’ve got would be great
The other thing, the more important to me, is that I’ve carried on, painted and lacquered and am not too worried about the faults (they’ll blend in)
But would be nice to get a bit of shine, so they blend in a bit better
I’ve got some fine wet and dry, or could fit and use polishing machine... but don’t know how long to leave before touching or what to do really
Thanks in advance
