Hey,
Looking to replace the knackered old fold out bed in the T25 and have come across these. Questions have been raised about their safety for passengers as the seat belts are attached to the frame as opposed to the vehicle. Our children will be the regular users of these seats so wanna get it right. Does anyone have any experience of these or something similar? Any arguments for or against?
TIA x

It will all depend on how the seat is attached to the floor of the vehicle and is it built to certain rules/certification. Plenty of factory built cars come with seat mounted seat belts and are fine but a lot of development has gone into these. It might be worth checking with your insurance company and MOT people to see what they say.

Range Rover Classic mount seatbelts in this way, but on the early ones the seat is held in by 17 bolts, and in the later models the subframe is welded to the floor

I would have a look at the IVA manual (it's online), it has lots of information on what you should be aiming for.

I work in vehicle certification doing this for large volume vehicle manufacturers. There's no problem in having the mounts on the seats. But the seat frame and attachments between the seat and vehicle need to be of a suitable strength to withstand the forces, which are pretty big. For each seating position, OEM manufacturers have to apply 1.35 tonnes to each lap belt and a further 1.35 tonnes to each shoulder belt of a row of seats. In addition they add 20x the seat mass when any anchorages are on the seat. And this test is done simultaneously on the whole row of seats, so a 3 seat bench can have 9 tonnes pulled on it. The website you link to boasts of having 'pull tested' the seats they supply for T4/5/6. But there's no mention of this being done for the T3 ones. Personally, I'd be looking for something that is advertised as M1 pull tested - but that might be hard to find on an older vehicle like the T3, especially as the testing will destroy a bodyshell. Also don't forget when installing it that things like fitting the right washers to the bolts can have as much of an effect on whether the belt anchorages are capable of passing the test above .

Is it me or do the pull tested ones look a bit more substantial than the non pull tested ones ?
