S2 Peugeot 106 diesel in Zest 2 trim. I don't really want to remember that... I did buy a lovely MK3 Golf just before turning 21 though. It looked more like this when I was 21/22, but never mind.

My 1977 Mini 1000, known as "Huey". I bought this for £250 off a guy who worked at an exhaust centre back in November 1993. The rear box on the standard system had started blowing and he didn't want to put a full system on it as the only ones they had were expensive. He chopped the knackered backbox off and had a look through the stores for something that would fit. He came across a front pipe for a flat-four Subaru. He reversed this and it gave the car twin upswept pipes about a foot apart. Doubt it did anything for performance, but it sounded lovely without being too loud. The amusing thing was it had a full year's MOT on it - performed by the previous owner! The black stripe on the bottom of the doors and rear panel hid a disgusting concoction of rust, P40 and underseal. When it failed its MOT back in 1995, the list was laughably long. I still sold it for £25 more than I bought it for.

This... a Triumph Herald 1200. Replaced a an early (1960) 948cc Herald that rotted away. This one eventually got twin SU carbs, a vitesse bonnet and banded steels plus a multi coloured paint job when the white turned to white with brown rust spots.

Ah my first car - I think 2004 was the year it finally got a decent motor, a 1630cc high compression xflow. Loved it, so much fun. 2004 As I learnt to drive in

No photos unfortunately (or very fortunately now I think of it) Was the first of many mk1 golfs when I was 20, dodgy bodykit, paint that changed from purple to light blue depending on the angle you looked at it, big loud exhaust. It really was a pile, but I loved it to bits at the time.

A very scruffy 1964 Morris Minor van with side windows. Originally in Rose Taupe (inside and engine bay still was) but at that time in varying shades of dark blue, light blue, primer, filler, grp, rust & fresh air. Two years later, the Amazon I still have was passed down & the Morris sold. The Amazon was known as 'the Heap', but compared to the Morris, it looked concours, so the Morris was nicknamed 'The Shed'. I think that the only pic I have is a partial one - seen parked here behind to the Amazon (when that was still my father's): clicky. The chap who bought it from me then restored it, but not long afterwards had a head-on collison with a Vauxhall Corsa. The Corsa had a kinked roof, but the Minor is back on the road (iirc, the damage was essentially bumper, wing, front panel, bonnet & radiator - the shell was still straight). Another Morris Minor is an itch that I'd like to scratch again, but in 4 door or convertible flavour next time.

In 1993 I was driving a low Triumph Dolomite and rebuilding a rather knackered Spitfire in a rented garage with no power and Christmas cracker tools!

Kept his longer than any other car I’ve owned, after 2 Capris, a Fiesta and a Mk1 Golf it felt like a new car even although it was 7 years old when I bought it.
