Wonder if anybody can advise, sorting out the wiring on the LR as the new engine is a bit different. Anyway it turns over on new starter but we have lost the oil pressure light despite a nice new sender. (Old sender is in the old engine which is now sold). Am I right in thinking if I earth the lead the light should go on ? It doesn't so I think the cable might need replacement. glenanderson suspect you would know ! but don't want to mess your thread up more. Thanks in advance for any kind help. James (P.S. I know an oil pressure gauge would be the best test but I don't have one lying around and the budget has taken a hammering already !)

that would be how most oil lights work, check the bulb before replacing the wire, if thats good then I'd go checking continuity between wire and engine.

Yes, earthing the cable should put the light on.
You can always just make up a simple temporary one* by hooking a bulb up with one contact to the battery live, and the other to the oil pressure switch, just to confirm that all is well.
* you must have an old indicator or sidelight lying around, you own a Land-Rover after all 🤣🤣

Thanks welshpug and Glen for confirming I'm not loosing the plot completely. James
