Workshop power cable over highway?

I have read that you can apply for permission to run a power cable over a highway, providing you have libilty insurance & meet the requiments.....anyone done this? Given the push for electric cars, the need for power points near homes will be a big issue? thanks

Are you asking the power cable laid down over the surface of the highway or suspended above the traffic?
On the surface; temporary only! must have timber ramp and channel to carry vehicular traffic over cable without inducing damage to cable housing. Appropriate warning signs for SPEED and BUMP. And a permit is required. Other restrictions in permit.
Overhead; hire licensed power line construction company. They will get permits and comply with clearance requirements.

It might be worth confirming which country you are in, as I am sure that requirements vary. I presumed that the OP was in the UK.

In England, its overhead, I know a temporary permit can be obtained but not sure on a permanent supply.

I think it would be cheaper to get a new supply connected to the workshop.
