Hi all.
Does anyone know what the current rules are for putting a car with a scrap marker on it back on the road. The car was not written off. It is my car , I did some front end accident damage, took it off the road did not claim on insurance and wrote to DVLA advising it was accident damaged and I would not be driving it. They then decided to put scrapped marker against it.
I am now in process of restoring it. Can anyone advise what process I need to do to put it back on the road. Is it just a case of MOT'ing the car and then writing to them or are there other official inspections that I need to book it in for also?
Car is in my name anyway but only have the old log book as them putting on the scrap marker stopped any newer revisions being sent out. Also want to make sure I comply with all the regulations so that I can keep the reg that is on it. Accident damage involves, front grill, bonnet, front wings and windscreen.
Cheers.

I think you may have issues if they have it down as scrapped as the reg would then belong to DVLA again. Before doing anything expensive i would contact them and see if you can reinstate a scrapped vehicle and if you can will it retain the reg.

Cheers duggers, I did sorn the car using the reg number so for now it is still attached to the car. I did ask and they said it might be possible but did not tell me what the process would be for trying.

I'd guess it depends on what you said in your initial letter, if you did not ask for it to be marked as scrap or that it would never return to the road but they did that anyway then I'd write them telling them you did not request the vehicle marked as scrap and that that was done by them without your permission when you just informed them the vehicle was somewhat damaged and would be off the road. Tell them that you want that decision reversed as you are now restoring the car and see what happens. Probably best to include relevant photos to show the car exists as well.

Just fill in a v62 and sent it off. You won’t even have to pay for it I don’t think as you have the old v5 (don’t surrender that to them though, it’s important evidence that you didn’t send it off scrapped and they’ve added the market without your consent).
I’ve had at least two that had had v5s sent off a scrap Returned to the road and they didn’t even Inspect them, just issued a new v5. Worse case would be a SGS identity check to make sure it’s not a ringer.

ah cool great. Yeah I did send off a V62 as I have changed address and the V5 is only a copy as I cannot find what I have done with the original. I sent it in with the £25.00 which they cashed but never sent anything and at the moment I cannot speak to them. Good to know thanks. I guess I need to MOT it and Tax it, then write to them and wait for them to either issue V5 or request I take car for the SGS identity check you mention.

Is it the sort of car that you could bet the owners club involved? Sometimes they prove helpful with the lot in Swansea

Where do I find out what an SGS identity check costs, does not seem to be any reference to it online that I can find.

A Government vehicle inspection that is free? Well that is a first. Happy days. Though to be fair I cannot find anything about it online.
