Is there such a thing?
I’m pondering a new vehicle. I love my Audi 80 but it’s no good to throw things in for a tip run, or my allotment so I’m co side ring something like a pick up.
Only thing is I love having the roof down and having sun on my face.
Other than a land rover or a Jeep Wrangler I can’t think of anything

Why not fit a tow bar and treat yourself to a box trailer?

I’d then have to store the trailer. My garage is rammed already. So a trailer being a simple solution gives me a new problem

I'm not 100% sure, but I think this is the only one there is. At least it's the only one I know of.

Mercedes G-Wagons are pretty modular when you ignore the Joey Essex variants, and get to their military roots.

Admittedly still on the 4x4 vibe - LandCruisers are pretty modular - but damn expensive or rusty

Škoda Felicia Fun is the nearest I can think of in the UK market, but that's only half way to what you want I think.

Nothing says 'decapitate me' more than a pick-up truck with no load guard.

Škoda Felicia Fun is the nearest I can think of in the UK market, but that's only half way to what you want I think. I was going to suggest one of these. However prices seem to have gone skyward over the last time I looked. Someone once advised me on here about buying some vehicle I had deemed necessary. Their advice was along the lines of why compromise the larger percentage of your driving enjoyment for something which is only required a small percentage of the time. I often find myself referring back to that advice when I find myself in this sort of conundrum. I think if you part ways with your 80 you will lose touch with that enjoyable part of driving. Someone mentioned a trailer earlier, would a custom trailer be possible? Matching audi 80 wheels, removable tow hitch or something like that? Alternatively could you run two vehicles? A cheap van or estate car for maintinence duties? It may also be worth enquiring with your council, my local council wouldn’t let my astra van in, but would let me in with a 4door pick up, massive challenger truck and my V70 which holds Atleast twice as much junk.

Mercedes G-Wagons are pretty modular when you ignore the Joey Essex variants, and get to their military roots. That´s actually not a Mercedes G, but a Puch G, its twin. Swiss army has just sorted out a few of them. Early 70s Chevy Blazer was first sold as a topless pickup. Well, not really a pickup, but with the rear seat folded down, it would do the job, too.
