As above, been googling and keep getting lots of different circumstances I.e some people send off the v5 with new information and receive it back and that’s that. Other seem to have to jump through hoops, get engineers reports, prove where the engine came from etc.
Has anyone done it recently?

I've only had a problem once where they asked for proof of where the engine came from, we just typed up a bill of sale from Jhon smith motors and sent that in.
Alot of people don't bother changing the v5 anymore, simply because they don't want the hassle.

I was thinking about wether it’s worth the hassle. As long as it’s insured with the engine swap does it really matter? The tax should stay the same as it’s a 94 car so should be the same now as a 2.8 as the 1.6 right?

I have changed the engine size on mine which increased the tax. I just sent the logbook off with the correct sections filled in with a nice covering letter and the bill from the garage that supplied the donar car and fitted the engine to my car, which stated the reg number and engine number of the donar car which obviously matched the engine number I had put on my logbook. It all came back updated and the next time I taxed it the new price was applied. I included the bill and covering letter after reading all the issues people were having if you Google it. I also made sure I had plenty of tax on it juse in case I had trouble.

Sent the v5 off with a letter from the garage who fitted the new engine. Didn't include details of the donor car.
Get the new v5 back with any questions from the dvla

If you're going to send paperwork to the DVLA bear in mind that due to corona they currently have a backlog of 400,000 applications according to their phone operators. They are currently working on late March/early April paperwork it appears. Online services are mostly unaffected (changing keeper online, changing address online).

I was quite lucky with my Midas. The engine number on the old V5 was different so when I sent off for the new V5 (this was before online but after when they wanted details of where the engine came from), it simply came back with the new details.

I’m not sending my van log book off with the engine change yet I’ve waited 14 weeks for a new log book for an astra I have Dvla have said no time limit due to lack of staff working Yes probably best to wait. I've been waiting only 6 weeks so far for V55/5 application to be processed, I'm expecting to wait a lot longer yet. I have bought one and sold one vehicle over lockdown though and was able to do both online and got V5 through in less than a week. So, I'm a convert on doing DVLA stuff online when you can. Shame they don't allow V55/5 or capacity changes online.

Changed the engine number on the LR with no supporting information at all, stuck it all in an envelope just before lockdown and was back in just over a week. The old engine number was the head casting number anyway ! Engine size was the same but wanted things vaguely correct as the chassis number has long since been plated over and don't need extra police / VOSA questions... Good luck when you send it off ! James
