1996 Ford Escort 1.6 Si 16v 3 door, 42k miles, fresh MOT and service, Excellent example
This car has had just 2 previous owners. It was registered to the original owner from new 24/09/1996 where it covered the majority of its mileage in the first few years of ownership. It has Dove Group window stickers which suggest it was a company car. Sadly the service history is missing but evidence of this car being a company car is a positive in that regular servicing would have been a necessity.
The car was then put into storage in 1998. It was transferred to another family member in 2004 (2 previous lady owners only).
I had the opportunity to buy the car earlier this year and owing to the rust free body (the car was waxyoiled from new), low mileage, mint interior and unmolested original specification I was keen to sympathetically re-commission the car for the lucky next owner.
The cars first MOT was carried out and it failed on some minor items (washer squirters, horn, tyres). All issues were rectified and the car was fitted with 4 brand new Falken premium tyres (the unused spare remains in the car). The only advisory left on the MOT is SLIGHT corrosion of the exhaust. This appears superficial and will allow the new owner to decide what direction to go (Original Ford/pattern part or SS). The car had a full service at the time at my trusted classic and retro car specialist and now has an MOT expiry of 27/05/2021. All receipts for this no expense spared refresh are provided.
The time in storage has been extremely kind to this escort. There is no structural rot anywhere on the car. There are a couple of very minor age related marks on the car but as you’ll see from the photographs the car is very presentable. The interior is in time warp condition. Well appointed with electric windows, original radio cassette, tilt and slide sunroof, uncut parcel shelf and good headlining.
These Mk6 escorts were dynamically very good and are a real step up from the pre-facelift mk5 cars. Handling is sharp, the 1.6 16v Zetec is a delight and provides a good turn of pace in such a light car. The lack of miles have left a nice positive feel to the gearbox and the overall experience is tight well sorted, well looked after car.
A modern classic ready to be enjoyed by the new owner.
