Hi all
I've had an oil leak from my acty for a while - I put it down to leaking from the hose but it seems like it's leaking from the Valve cover gasket.
It looks easy enough to remove the valve cover but the part I've seen listed doesn't seem to be available any more - not sure if it's out of production or just out of stock on the generic car parts websites.
It's Payen part number JN404 if anybody has access to suppliers. Ironic that it's part 404 - page not found.
Part numbers...
Payen J404 NPS H122A23 Blue Print ADH26715
Honda OEM numbers...
12328679000 12328679003 12328679010
Any way if it's not possible to buy them new is it possible to make one out of gasket paper or use a liquid sealant of some kind?
I will have a spare on my spare engine but I suspect that's likely to be in a similar condition.
Thanks in advance.
EDITED TO ADD:
Also I've found it's NPS part number H122A23 and there's one for sale on ebay in France but they only post to France so if anyone out there in France could receive it for me - I could put your address in delivery address - and then post on to me in the UK i'd appreciate it!

If it's got no special features and is all the same material, then I can't see why you wouldn't be able to make one with a sharp enough knife. A valve cover isn't usually under enough pressure to be a major thing. Is it cork or paper?
I've got a few gaskets on my Vauxhall that I make when I need to rather than trying to hunt them down, because they're hard to get and can be expensive.

In this video there's a very clever chap who makes both copper head gaskets and regular valve cover gaskets for a 6-cyl bike engine he made by welding two 4-cyl ones together! The gaskets look pretty easy really certainly compared to other crazy stuff like chopping up camshafts and welding them back together

Most valve cover gaskets are cork or rubber - I've got a sheet of cork gasket material on the shelf for example.
Sharp scissors/knife and a set of hole punches and you're away.

Thanks for replies. Cork / rubber / paper with scissors / knife / hole punch definitely sound achievable with my skills. Gasket looks rubber in photos although it seems to have a U shaped curve, hopefully a flexible sheet could allow for that curve by allowing a long enough section to curve.

That looks like a funky moulded rubber one to me rather than "from a sheet" - I'd try and get the proper one..

You might get away with it but I think you'd have to cut and bond the section where the U-shape is, I doubt you'd get a good enough bend otherwise. Maybe, though, with some sealant as well.

You won't have a seal using flat cardboard mate, it's moulded rubber one like most.
You can use silicone gasket maker, just be careful with amount applied obviously.
Threebond is the best stuff I've used and I've used a lot, you want the grey stuff.

You'll still need the gasket in there.

You'll still need the gasket in there. so sealant + leaky gasket = potentially non leaky gasket?

Yeah, just give it a proper good clean. Be careful removing as when they're old the tend to stick to the head face in places so carefully pry it off with a Stanley blade flat to the head. It's a bodge and usually only 80% successful but worth a go.

Can you not keep an eye out for a head gasket set or are they hard work? there would be one with that plus other gaskets as and when you need them

Yes my engine is half of the goldwing 1100 - bought one for £20 now so not much off that price when shippng is added on.
