Hi, Have just joined this forum having found this thread which we're finding really interesting as we've just bought a Royal Mail Manulectric body - sadly lacking the original wheels and looking a bit worse for wear having been on a farm for heaven knows how long. Ours looks somewhat different to anything we've seen online so far as it's got the Royal Mail red on the sides, but has Aluminium ends and roof which we've not seen anywhere in our searching. Looking forward to getting it tidied up and deciding what we're going to use it for... several ideas but not yet fully decided!

It looks like a stanley engineering version to me . I have a chassis for that body you have and would be interested in it . I have a complete one if you was interested in a swap?

I wonder if one could be adapted to an internal steering mech? Could be lots of fun!

I found this thread while googling for info on this vehicle recently listed on Facebook Marketplace - I'm sure some on here might be interested in taking it on! PMG 814E, a Manulectric converted to a Postman Pat show vehicle: www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/625797292940730

PMG 814E, a Manulectric converted to a Postman Pat show vehicle: www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/625797292940730 I think that's brilliant. Handy that they have a photo of it in a book saying it was converted in the 80s too, so proof of it's age. Shame it's not showing the reg as recognised by the DVLA, but hopefully it'd be possible to reinstate it.

Yes, strange that it has a tax disc from 1999 yet doesn't show on the VES - I've seen vehicles with tax expired dates much older on there. Either the older records are unreliable (most likely), or it has been recorded as scrapped, or the registration has been transferred onto retention (unlikely since it's not dateless and hence worthless). Either way there shouldn't be a problem getting it on the road, just for the latter two I don't think it would be possible to get the original registration back.

The Henry Budgen was collected a Few Months ago now and has been patiently awaiting my attention It looks to have been leaking for years and has rotted the floor one end unfortunately it has rotted the chassis also. I am just separating the body from the chassis at this stage ,But it is clear the chassis needs some major repairs one end. I'm a little stuck as i need to source some steel channel 76mm x 38mm x4mm Any ideas where i could get some from ?

Does the side of the channel taper in slightly? Plenty available in thicker guage than 4mm, maybe double check the thickness at bottom of the U? As melle said in imperial its 3" x 1.5" x 5/32 or potentially 1/8th

I'm trying to replace it with the same size if possible , as it was most likely a stock size at the time it was probably Widley used so i may try some reclamation salvage yards , or perhaps a steel fabricators could fold 4mm?

Just buy a length of box section and cut it in half lengthways.
Folding 4mm at any sort of length will require some serious machinery.
