I changed cars recently. Its now a 2008 Mazda 6 1.8. But the air con is not blowing cold. Should I then A) buy the wee bottle and top up the gas myself as its cheap. B) Get Halford's et al to do it for me. Its expensive. Compared. Thanks muchly.

Use Halfords or whatever you don't get charged if it leaks.

That age you will be on the old (cheaper) gas so get a garage to do it, should only be around £50

Are you sure it's the gas? I recently had my daily driver topped up because it hadn't been cold for ages, and the last re-gas was about eight years ago, but when they removed the old gas they commented that it was pretty much full. After gassing it still wasn't very cold. On mine it turns out that the main fuse to the fans had dirty contacts (a common fault), and if the fans aren't turning, the air-con goes into "economy" mode, which doesn't include cooling the air. Once I swapped the fuse and cleaned the contacts, it started blowing nice and cold again.
