I am going around in circles and need help from a tester if possible. As shown below in red, I have a golf ball sized bit of damage to the edge of the screen outside of the swept area. A single crack emanates from this into the swept area, but not into the zone A. My interpretation is : The "golfball sized " damage is ignored as it is not in any zone that affects the drivers view. The crack / damage extends over a 40mm diameter so it must be considered. To my mind as its just a crack I can't see how it significantly affects the drivers view so it should pass. But part of me says its a crack over the diameter so its a fail ? Windscreen

Something that effects the drivers vision is difficult to give a definitive answer on .
If it affects the testers vision , it fails .
But , at our place I’m almost 6’5 & my manager is 5’5 , so one could legitimately pass damage , whilst the other could fail it .
Not a lot of help I know , but it’s not black & white anymore .

Post a pic of said damage on here and I'll give you my opinion of pass or fail It is something that will be tester dependant, but it does say in the manual that driver height is NOT taken in to consideration

if the littpe red marker you have put on the manual pic is the same as what the car has, it would possibly be a pass and advise for me. But difficult to judge with not being in the drivers seat

I know of two people who have had cracks all the way across the screen (right to left but low down) and they have passed recent tests, since the change in rules it would seem as long as it doesn't effect drivers vision it will pass.

Thanks for the opinions, I have spoke to a couple of testers and they say much the same although they also mentioned the fact the criteria change but the testing method and words haven't.
Bottom line, you must be able to see the road with out anything significantly affecting your view of the entire road.
so cracks appear to be Ok.
the only caveat is if its dangerous or not fit for purpose. Then its a general fail

we've got a crack about 20mm long right in front of the driver on our MX5 but you can only really see it in sunlight, seeing as most MOT stations are dark and dingy they never notice it, will get it changed though as its getting larger.
