Hi all,
have spent most of this year building campers and have even managed to get away in them for a few days. In August I had a week away on a narrow boat on the Langollen canal and was hooked. I have had quite a few holidays on the broads but this was our first tome on a narrow boat and we loved it with the only downside being the cost. A six birth boat with a good spec comes in at around £1400 for a week which isn't too bad when there's six of you but when there's only usually 2 of us its not so good.
Anyways one thing lead to another and I ended up viewing some boats yesterday, some of which were stunning but very expensive and some were floating sheds and still expensive. We did view a 2005 58ft with a good spec and an unusual layout as the lounge is at the rear followed by a dinette, kitchen, bathroom and the the master cabin with en-suite right at the front. We Liked this layout as normally I'm on the tiller and the wife and family are it the front of the boat 50ft away so it can be lonely.
With this layout they are only a few feet away through the rear doors so it should be much more social.
She is a shared boat so I have purchased a 1/12th share which gives me a minimum of 4 weeks afloat every year.
Cant wait to get her out and about and introduce my grandsons to boating. My first week away is at the start of December so hoping for good weather although she has a multi-fuel stove at the front plus proper central heating throughout.
Will add some pics when I can as I clean forgot to take any yesterday.
Cheers - mike
