I have a Volkswagen T3 (T25) van which sports a rather dull 1.6 diesel engine.
This engine is naturally aspirated, so once made about 50BHP.
I really do like this car, but i use it a lot to haul stuff and is a bit underpowered for modern traffic to be honest.
Engine (CS) has 194.000 km's, has never been rebuilt and is in general good condition.
Now my question is the following:
In Belgium engine swaps are illegal, so I don't want to undertake anything that would get me in massive trouble.
A mate of mine has a Golf 2 with a CY engine (1.6 TD) which has approx 70BHP.
I was wondering whether it would be technically possible to just bolt the turbo of the CY engine on my CS engine and run it like that. That is without too much of a hassle.
This would give me the benefit of keeping the original engine (and engine number mentioned on my paperwork) with the bonus of having a few horses extra.
I have not much experience with these engines so don't know exactly if everything would fit as-is or not and whether or not this would actually give me a slight increase in power.
The Golf is currently sitting in a field about 200km away from me, so I'd like to be quite sure of my possibilities before I go and collect it.
I know there are a ton of possibilities regarding 1Y or AAZ engine transplants, but this would be troublesome regarding paperwork and legality...
Thanks for the answers!
