Morning everybody. Bit of a problem, box is driving all the time. No matter what the selector position. Easy option is swap the box, but it is not a common one. But there is a quattro one for sale. So question for auto box experts is could It be converted back to 2 wheel drive? Looks like it would work from what parts diagrams I can find. All ideas welcome!

I trust you’ve checked the selector cable and arm on the transmission? Seems a strange fault that I wouldn’t put down to the failure of the actual transmission

Had the sump off and there is a black thing that goes onto the selector arm lying in the bottom . Seems to be made of bakelite or something so cannot repair. Also been told the f125 multi switch could be bad.

I reckon the broken part is your issue. F125 switch is a legendary component in the A8 world, for all the wrong reasons, however, constant drive is not one of its known effects.
F125 switch can be dismantled for contact cleaning if needed. Might be worth a look on the A8Parts forum - some of the guys on there are quite hands on.
