For sale is my 1996 Volvo 850 T5 Estate.
I'd not long purchased an 'R' reg V70 when this came up for sale, and having had a desire to own a T5 for a while I couldn't let the opportunity pass me by. The V70 was quickly sold to make room for this; it's been a pleasant thing to have around and quicker than I was expecting. But with a career change just having been made, several other projects on the go, and the current global circumstances taken into account, I've come to the conclusion that perhaps owning 5 vehicles isn't the most sensible thing to be doing currently.
Please see some key details below:
- Car is just shy of 160k miles, it'll most likely tick over that as it's still in use.
- MOT until 14/12/20
- Car is unmodified, but certainly still a quick thing.
- Nicely spec'd with a sunroof, switchable eco/sport/winter modes, fold up rear-bench making it a 7 seater, and front heated-seats (drivers-side not working).
- Partial but well detailed service history.
As is to be expected with a car of this age and at this price, there's a few niggles that'd benefit from being rectified. The previous owner was a labourer, and I believe this was used as his work vehicle. As can be seen in the photo's the interior has cleaned up really quite well, but the boot carpet has probably faired worst and would benefit from a wet-vac. The bodywork is straight, without rust (albeit some minor bubbling around one of the windscreen washer jets) and pretty much dent-free, but most panels have minor scratches. There are a few small areas of lacquer peel, and the paint has started to flake off of the wing mirror shroudings. The ABS light is on; I imagine the pads have been run to the limit in the past and it's consequently set this off as I've checked the discs with a DTI and they're warped. The service light stays on for the first couple of minutes after start-up but then goes out. Central brake light has recently stopped working. PAS pump is noisy when cold but fine once the temp needle begins to rise. Headlining is sagging at the rear of the car. Central locking only works off of the passenger door. I'd like to think it's clear I'm being as honest as I can, as I'd much rather someone turns up pleasantly surprised as opposed to unpleasantly surprised. There's potentially a couple things I've missed but realistically it's a car best viewed in person.
Despite the above, it's genuinely quite presentable whilst being a nice and reliable thing to drive. I've been driving it daily and have done just over 2k miles in it since the start of August. It's not let me down, nor would I expect it to. It drives far better than the V70 I owned previously and that had 40k less on it.
The price is £1750. There's been hookier looking examples that've sold for similar money recently, and with most possessing relatively vague descriptions (leading to potential hidden issues), this is a fair price IMO.
As said I'd highly recommend coming to see the car yourself. Any questions just send me a message over. Cheers!
