Alfa Romeo 145 1.8 ts 16v (2000 X-reg) £300
This 145 1.8 twin spark has been in regular use till June 2019, which has been looked after by ourselves since Mar 2014. It has always been a reliable motor, a blast to drive on the B- and C-Roads, and a surprisingly comfy cruiser on the motorway. Car based in Newcastle since 2014, has been down to Wales, Devon, and Cornwall, up to Edinburgh and Glasgow, as well as almost every corner in Northumberland. Probably the very last of the old-school hot hatches, the revvy 1.8 ts engine and the quick steering ratio makes a rather engaging and sporting drive.
The 1.8 ts is widely regarded as the best engine to have in the 145/146 range, as it is more oversquare than its 2.0 Qv counterpart, are simpler without the use of balancing shafts as on the 2.0, and is therefore more willing to rev without sacrificing much in terms of power (1.8: 145bhp, 2.0: 155bhp).
Good Points:
-1.8 ts engine has timing belt and variator replaced at approx. 70000 miles, none of the dreaded diesel clatter that might suggest an upcoming expensive repair,
-Bodywork in fair condition, no obvious corrosion (!), only several usage-related car park dings, and slight fading on the trims above both rear side windows. Could be touched up easily, especially in black,
-All necessary welding, mostly on the floorpans, already completed during current ownership,
-17” BBS RF alloy wheels all round with the correct size and offset and new Accelera tires fitted,
-Full Momo leather interior in black, in fairly presentable condition, no tears or discolouring.
Bad points:
-Steering box has slight leak but never a major issue, needs topping up from time to time,
-Catalytic converter (back box) removed when parked outside; however, a full Supersprint exhaust system is available on request (removed from another 145),
-Airbag warning light on, likely fuse.
Available upgrades (at additional cost), please enquire if interested
-KW Coilover suspension full set (V1)
-Ragazzon exhaust manifold
-Supersprint full exhaust system (front, centre, back)
-Zender bodykit full set (front and rear bumpers, side skirts, rear spoiler)
Priced to sell to a fellow enthusiast as a project car due to change in circumstances at our garages, specifically as these 145s are getting rare and gradually more sought after, it might not be suitable to be used as a courtesy car, which had been our original intentions.
The MOT has expired on 09 Oct 2020 and the car requires trailering away should you be interested in taking her home as is; however, as Alfa Romeo specialists, we could arrange the necessary recommissioning work to bring it back to roadworthy condition, or any installation of the aforementioned upgrades, all at reasonable prices.
