About to pick up a Aston martin Vantage over the weekend, Its a car ive always wanted but never thought i'd actually be in the position to buy. I'm having trouble convincing myself to spend this amount of money on what will be and expensive toy, The potential large bills that could come my way are also some what scary although most big bill items have already been replaced and I'm having the car inspected by a specialist tomorrow.
Its a 7 hour drive each way with a trailer to collect and i know I'm going to do my own head in on the way up to collect it. I'm also thinking what other cars i could buy for half the amount and have just as much enjoyment out of, Yet i feel this Aston itch is and itch i need to scratch as get out of my system.
What should i do what would you do...........

Dez is right. I get the feeling you are not sure about your decision, that may be a hint to yourself. BUT At the end of the day, as mentioned, only you will know. Do listen to your instincts, and don’t be like me...... I could sell myself ice in winter.

The good thing with something like that is if you do change your mind you are unlikely to lose money on it.
But as Dez says, buy your dreams and forget what people think, yourself included ;D

To paraphrase my missus - when you are in a nursing home, not in control of your own bowels, you will not be saying to yourself...."Thank God I didn't buy that Aston"

Even if it goes wrong, you can say "I owned an Aston. A real one".
Not many people can say that.

In addition to above, I guess it comes down to the history file and what the specialist says. Oh, and as you are asking this is on RR, does that mean it's this model of Vantage? (winter pack accessories optional)

Most of the cars ive owned in the past have been almost impulse buys, my MG Maestro for example. Id always liked them but never thought id own one until a mint one owner very low mileage one turned up round the corner from me, and I snapped it up despite being on the limit of my funds. And being a BMC/BL person, I had to own an MG at some point. I currently have one car id love to own, an A60 of some sort, I have the funds and the space for it and a couple of months ago I almost bought one, and still kept looking at them, but with things being uncertain I thought it better not too. As things currently stand its probably a good job I didnt, but my reason for not buying it isnt your reason for you not buying the Aston, and as lovely as they are an Aston isnt a car on my list of cars id ever be able to own, so after all that I guess I'm saying that I cant really help.

Houses and cars are, generally, the highest value purchases anyone ever makes so in my opinion you have to buy with your heart. Yes, if its your daily and you do 100+ miles each day then perhaps not a Aston...but if you really want the car, and can afford it then there won't be a day when you gaze upon it and say..wish I hadn't bought it. Likewise its potentially an "investment" car and certainly wouldn't depreciate if you do regret it and choose to sell.

Years ago (2008 I think) I had the chance to own an Mercedes 190 Cosworth. As a touring car fan it is one of my dream cars, I could afford it and fuel was cheaper back then. I didn't buy it for reasons similar to yours and regret it to this day! I say buy it whilst you can. What model of Vantage are we talking about?

If you have found yourself in a position to buy the car, and it's currently within your means to do so, get it (y). If the maths is currently working out for the servicing and upkeep at a basic level, again, get it. It's an itch you'll have to scratch.
There are some cars in the past where at the time I thought the same as yourself, and while I've sometimes talked myself out of them, I haven't always. I can't say I've regretted owning riskier cars. I'm glad I've had the opportunity.
I also thought exactly what you have when I bought a car I currently own of a much lower value. I've never to this day spent as much on 4 corners of rubber as I thought I would, chucked as much as I thought I would at brakes all round, even if I stuck to standard parts. However, I can't say I look back and say I wish I didn't do it. If anything, I'm glad I've been in a position to afford it, and take it to places where I never thought I'd take cars like this.
Like yourself, I wondered if I should just stick to a couple of cheaper cars. This is all good and well, but I think you'd be kidding yourself if you say you'd get exactly the same thrills. It's your pride and joy. Then you have the upkeep and taxing/insuring of 2 or 3 cars too which can soon become boring. At least even with one pricey toy, it's all for one car and not several.
If anything, I wish I tried a few more things, albeit there is only so much one can do.
So, go in, and enjoy (y).

Get it bought. I called a seller about a Virage (the 80’s/90’s one not the new one) just last week & it had sold about 4 hrs earlier. Obviously wasn’t meant to be.

Only you know what to do. I often ask on here before I buy a car then despite the resounding NO's do it anyway because its in my head and all I'm thinking about. It's never the right time to buy something, I bought my beetle unseen during the 1st lockdown as a self employed Carpenter with no income. If you don't buy it you'll always be thinking what if. And if you're anything like me the prices will triple and you'll never get the chance to buy one again.

As I've got older I can't buy cars anymore. I love it in theory, I spend forever looking at cars for sale but the actual act of commiting to the purchase just utterly stresses me out. To the point it saps the joy out of it.
The decision to buy the Beetle was a four day epic of me talking myself in and out of it repeatedly, not being able to sleep properly, asking everyone what they thought and then finally my wife telling me to grow a pair and buy it.
I'm glad I did.

BUY IT. The end... Actually it's not the end, I have a little story too. When I was in my teens my Dad wanted an E-type. They were expensive then, but the classic car scene had really taken off so although they were expensive, they were on the affordable end of expensive. My Dad could afford it... Just, but it meant he would have very little left in the bank. So he didn't buy one. 35 years later he still wishes he had one, however now an E-type is proper money, and he says he couldn't get in and out of one anymore anyway. I think he still regrets it to this day. When I was in my late teens, again before the classic car scene had gone mad, I was offered a Daimler SP200 Dart for just £400! I liked it, and it was MOTd and taxed and ready to go. But I didn't buy it because all my so called friends at the time said why would I want that old Junk? Stupid friends put me off, and stupid me for letting them. Again here we are 30 odd years later and still regretting it, and not having the money to buy one. But I have learned, last night I emptied my bank account and bought the most expensive car I've ever owned. I'm not comfortable with it if I'm honest as I not only emptied my car fund account, I raided the house and daily bills fund too! I was backwards and forwards with this purchase to the point that it was keeping me awake at night. In the end, Mrs Pistonpopper said why haven't I bought it yet? I said because it meant emptying the daily bills fund too. She just said get on with it, you can always earn more money, and when I'm dribbling into my cornflakes In an old folks home I won't be able to earn more time. So, I emptied my accounts, and bought it. Last night I showed it to my Dad, who is a man that is very careful with his money. I told him what I had done to be able to buy it, and rather than have the lecture about saving for a rainy day, and being careful with my money, and looking after my bills. He just said well done, that is very cool. So go and buy that Aston Martin bababoom we are waiting to see the pictures of your epic purchase.

Do It, you'll never get another chance. there plenty of specialists out there who do quality work at rates well below AM dealers , and a lot of the parts are ex-jaguar so easy to obtain cheaply.
