Wifey got seat covers from one of the children and our youngest (15) appears to have acquired a car from friends of the family. Haven't seen it yet. Don't even know what it is. Allegedly it runs and drives but has a few issues, some of which might be serious. We shall see. If nothing else it will be a good learning experience for him. It's a '96 Nissan Pulsar CJ1. A little over 237,000 km on the odo. Imported into NZ ex Japan and registered here in '03. Had to jump start it cos it'd been sitting for a while but we drove it the ten miles home with no problems. I took along a gallon of petrol in a can just in case but the tank was already 3/4 full, bonus. The engine oil is black rather than being somewhat akin to a milkshake which leads me to doubt the allegation of a blown headgasket. Quite pleased about that. The automatic transmission oil is a lovely shade of red and doesn't smell terrible. Pleased about that also. Less pleased that it is an automatic but gift horses etc. Most of the lights work. Central locking works. Power windows, only the driver's one works but that's the most important so we don't care a great deal. Needs at least one tyre soon. Spare wheel is a space saver but the wheel well is deep enough to fit a full size wheel in there and it is quite possible that we have something from another car that will suit. Will be checking brake pads but hoping the noise was only caused by rusty discs from sitting unused too long. The shell appears to be not rusty, at all, woohoo. No towbar fitted so it hasn't had the dragged out of it towing, yet, watch this space.

It's a (whispers softly) all action almera! UK ads had us believe the professionals drove them. My gran had a 1.6 gx saloon and my mum had a 1.4 gx hatchback. Supremely reliable cars although they succumbed to tin worm.

Got some Huey hu-1 lap belts (Vietnam war era helicopter) for the model A to replace the previous ones that got burnt. Tracking also says I’ll have a new (old) steering wheel off a dump truck waiting for me when get back to the workshop for it as well Hotrodding is nothing if not eclectic.

I like how your cars evolve, Dez. You take parts from all corners of the world and make them work into some of the most anticipated (from me anyway) build threads on here. Merry xmas and please continue

Finally got all the tools in one place rather than scattered about in various cases, bags, boxes and where the hell is the 10mm? places. Breaking it in gently with a service on the Aero tomorrow.

Finally got myself a half decent low entry trolley jack. Been fed up with driving onto wooden blocks to get the trolley jacks under the car so treated myself to a lighter but better Machine Mart racing jack type thing, oh and a new battery charger from there as well. Other things included Edd Chinas book, the Micro by many Micro Machines book and one of those JDM back packs with the Harness webbing for straps (I went with red Sparco) that came all the way from the U.S. All in all not a bad haul

thejdmstore.com/collections/backpacksthats the one but there are numerous different places to get them, probably all made in the same factory in China and all breaching copyright etc now that i think about it.......there was a Sabelt one as well that looked cool. Quality seems ok thus far and its a bit different so happy with it

My Eldest son, who's 41 and has a dry military humour bought me a drill so I cannot hurt myself in my dotage Suspecting this might happen I had my Christmas gift to me delivered in mid December. Christmas works for me!

From my wife, though she refused to wrap them. A lad I work with reckons this is the most strange and boring Christmas present he's ever seen.

Bought myself this one yesterday. On here, that would be ‘essential shopping trip’ Did you pick up any non-essentials like food whilst you were in the supermarket I might pop and buy a big pile.... can line them up on Friday and pretend it’s a New Year’s Day car show
