Sorry for the long post but i think i need to get everything down in one go.....
So as we all know 2020 has been a bit cr@p, serious lack of holidays and it hasn’t stopped p!ssing down for 3 months.
On the flip side the family are healthy, and I have been working from home for the last 9 months, so I have a lot to be thankful for.
Now on to the car bit, I work in the city of London so 2.5 years ago bought myself a new Nissan leaf, no road tax, no congestion charge, its automatic (effectively) and costs pennies to drive to work. It is brilliant for the commute (if a bit small for a 6 foot 5 lump), but on the longer journeys to pick up the kids from Uni or visiting friends it is a pain in the both physically metally with the charging.
I reckon I have saved about £2000 by not driving to work, (not including not spending cash at work and no holidays) so i have decided to get a proper car.
Initially I was thinking quirky a Reliant Robin, Metro etc, but then I thought it would be easier to sell to the wife if I got a cruiser so now I am thinking Jag XJ6 or Similar.
I have always wanted a Jag and seen a couple with LPG which would help keep costs down (not that it is a prime requirement), I also like Lexus' and Nissan QX (test drove one about 25 years ago before buying an Audi A6) or Volvo.
In reality the car will do about 2500 miles per year as we also have a dayvan for taking the dogs out at the weekend, so the car will be a long-distance cruiser and a toy.
Whilst i am not a complete div when it comes to working on cars I would be lying if I said I was any good or knowledgeable so most maintenance will be done by a local garage friend
So with a budget of between £1000 to £2500 (ish) what would you get in my shoes? I am not in any particular rush, but would like to sort as soon as possible
It need’s to be
big or quirky
not horrendous on fuel
decent length MOT
ideally automatic
Ideally fairly local to essex (as we are in tier 4 and cant travel anywhere)
Not and S or X type
I have seen the below on ebay
