Hi all,
Putting this up for sale only because I could use the space and as a mini-project I've pretty much completed it now.
You can read all about the jobs I've done to it here: forum.retro-rides.org/thread/216257/paul-misadventures-yeah-fit
And here how she's looking today:
The facts...
1996 Toyoto Paseo ST (that's the poverty spec, but still manages to have PAS, electric windows and mirrors)
1.5l 5E-FE engine offering a blistering 89bhp when new.
MOT until November 2021 - only one advisory on a noisy rear wheel bearing. I have the bearing to fit but haven't got around to it yet.
140k on the clock, so presume some of those horses have keeled over, died and been made into glue by now.
Described as 'bland' and 'mediocre' by the motoring press - which is why there's only about 200 left of the road.
40mpg perfectly achievable - sips dinosaur juice
Has a cool removable sunroof and the JDMYO! bag to keep the glass in.
16" wheels with excellent tyres off a Vauxhall Adam - although original steelies will be included...tyres are questionable though
Has clearly been looked after by a previous owner...totally solid underneath, not a hint of rust. Honestly. I've never had a retro I can actually jack on the original jacking points...my 10 year old BMW is more crusty.
During my ownership (since October) it's had
Full service - oil, oil filter, air filter, plugs
Cambelt and tensioner
PAS & aux belts replaced
New thermostat - old one was stuck open, causing cool running
Replaced a bunch of broken lights
Machine polished
Bigger battery
LED headlight bulbs - not to everyone's taste and I'll dig out the old bulbs but the light they gave out was rubbish and I needed something brighter as I've been shuttling my son to childcare in her
Also got a box of spares - lights, mirrors, new front brake pads - to go along with her.
The main downside is still the paint and bodywork. At 140k she's got her share of chips and a couple of bigger scratches (on the bumpers mainly). Bumpers have been badly resprayed in the past and they're flat & don't quite match. She polishes up really well but the paint is thin.
I'm looking for £800 which I think is pretty fair for a 100% reliable retro with a long ticket. I'm based in Essex.
Might be interested in a swap (and I've got some cash) for something big, tall and gas-guzzling - I'm looking at Jeep Cherokees, RX300s and Ford Explorers longingly...
