I used to love the Motor Shows, reading about the reports in the magazine and going to the Earl's Court show back in 80s. Concept cars were always awesome, and it's a shame that many never made production, or even running status. Here's a couple of faves from me - what are yours? Ferrari Pinin (1980) - show car was not a runner but someone has since added a Ferrari Flat 12 to make it go. Oof. Apparently Enzo was quite keen but never committed to signing it off. It's lovely. Plus it has an egg-crate grille years before the Senator. Porsche Tapiro (1970). I was not around when this came out and remember seeing this in a library book when I was about 10. A classic Giugiaro 70s wedge on a 914/6 chassis with gullwing doors? What's not to like? BMW Nazca M12 (1991). Oh BMW why didn't you? V12, mid mounted supercar. Yes please. Lotus Etna (1984). Tony Rudd designed V8, active suspension and almost ready to go into production (which it didn't of course). The show car was just a fibreglass, clay and wood buck, but it DID have an engine and gearbox. It was rebuilt by Ken and Neil Myers and made into a running car. MG EX-E (1985) Everything a big MG sports car should have been. It looked absolutely incredible and was based on the Metro 6R4. If I am being ultra critical, the back's a bit flat, but JUST LOOK AT IT!

The MID 4 is a cracking shout! I always preferred the look of the earlier incarnation of the MID4. Had elements of BMW M1, Ferrari 355 (well before it came out) and Lotus Esprit in it. Fantastic bit of kit.

Hazy memory recalls a story about a group of lads, perhaps employees of a Ford factory in Western Australia, who shoehorned the running gear from a Falcon XR8 into a Focus shell and made it look like it belonged there. Kind of like the Metro 6R4 but less extreme inasmuch as it was front engine rear drive and looked a lot like a normal Focus. If that thing had ever made it into series production I'm sure they would have sold more than a few.

Think the US kit came later. I remember my boss showing me a magazine article years ago, possibly in one of the English Ford enthusiasts magazines, but I haven't been able to track it down online.

The OSI Scarabeo. That car haunts me. I think is so beautiful I even seriously considered building a copy of it... ( or something that would have been heavily influenced by it)

( or something that would have been heavily influenced by it) I don't suppose they listed wheel & tyre specs for the concept? That's just the tyre wall chunkiness I'm imagining on the cactus.
