I remember the first time I saw one in sunny Salford. I don't read modern car mags so I had no idea what it was. I still love how they look.

I'm assuming the tasteful folks here will not be considering any Bentley grills or badges?

Thanks for the replies. I think in my budget I'd be looking at the 3 litre diesel or 3.5 petrol. It would be my mostly daily car but I don't drive that often anyway. Which of the 2 would be recommended?

No no no get the V8 Hemi, you will save enough in the difference of the purchase price to pay for the extra fuel. You know it makes sense, Surely we all want smiles per gallon 😀

The Merc v6 cdi can have issues. Glow plug relay modules fail and they won’t start in cold weather. There is a updated part from Merc but usually at least one glow plug has failed as well. Glow plugs can be a pain to get out as they suffer from being locked in by carbon. They Y pipe onto the turbo has a thick red rubber seal on it and if fitted incorrectly can be pulled into the turbo and damages the vanes. Also you get a lot of oil build up that doesn’t help the seal stay in place and if it’s not seated correctly the oil drips onto the swirl flap motor which then fails. Air filters seem to get missed at service everyone I’ve done they have been jammed full.

had a diesel saloon couple years ago, decent car but as said, interior very basic, one thing i can say is watch for the oil leak on the diesel v6,its usually the oil cooler seals, cheap part but long fiddly expensive job to do(if you have to pay for it done),i fancied the v8 one but they seem to suffer oil feed problems, possibly bad maintenance but look into that, seen quite a few with engines knocking etc

Seen a few about with the hemi and LPG - that's the way I would go rather than a diesel.

also had one of these as a rental in the usa when they came out. base model, beige with steel wheels and interior was SPARSE. drove fine, but was nothing special.
as mentioned, PT cruiser is probably the worst car ive ever driven.

I wouldnt get anything other than the Hemi (I did). Apparently the economy of the other petrol isnt much better and when I was looking the other petrol was seriously cheap because nobody wanted them. The Hemi was great, mine was low mileage though, but I wouldnt let higher mileage put me off.
If you don't do many miles anyway why not have the whole experience?

I owned one for about 6 months in 2014. It was a 57 Plate 3.0 Diesel and it was honestly one of the nicest cars to drive that I've owned (and the list includes BMWs, Jags and Porsches). I bought it for a European road trip and it was brilliant. 4 adults, loads of luggage and 3 weeks travelling through France, Belgium, Germany, Holland and Sweden. It didn't miss a beat, returned over 30mpg and cruised effortlessly at 100mph. It was really comfortable, looked stunning and imposing and several people I know thought it was a Bentley!! Oh, and the stereo was awesome. Only sold it because I bought a Chevy Truck and didn't have room for both. I'd have another anytime.

Currently driving a 1972 BMW 1602 as my daily. Don't ask about previous cars - there have been way too many and I stopped counting at 160!

Funny thing about Chryslers in the UK, the PT Cruiser, Crossfire and the 300C all seem to produce marmite reactions, either loved or hated ! I'm in the pro camp, the 300C makes me think of the Anthill Mob Around 2005 I getting my Cruiser serviced at a Chrysler dealers on Perth when the first 300C came in, it definitely got my attention. In black it struck me as looking very menacing when seen in the rearview mirror

Black is not a colour ! .... Its the absence of colour

I personally don't like the diesel. I think the 300c is a V8 car. I don't mind the wagon

I've not owned one but had a pair on my books for some years, a V6 petrol and a diesel touring. I don't have a lot bad to say about them, nether threw up any serious problems in service. One irritation was the factory don't supply a dipstick for the transmission (neither do Mercedes) the diesel had the issue with the big red seal, but that was easily fixed, fortunately the car didn't actually eat it.
Overall I found them supremely comfortable to drive, if not excessively quick in standard form. The load space access on the touring is a bit restrictive. The interior fit and finish is, i would say, about standard for an American made car, i've owned several american cars over the years from 50s to 90s and they've all been curse word inside with poor unsupportive seats, loose and squeaky dash fittings, dysfunctional guages, lousy rear legroom and scruffy saggy headliners. I didn't expect a lot and I wasn't disappointed. At least the Chrysler seats didn't CRUCIFY my spine like my old Caddy Seville seats did!
I'd like to try the Hemi petrol and love the LOOK of them, they positively SCREAM "Mafia staff car, keepa da hands OFF!"

My fil has an estate version in diesel flavour. It's been interfered with to make it look like a bentley. It has the badge on the wheels, boot and the grille. It's been stood on his drive for over a year since it failed it's mot on a frayed seatbelt. I wonder if he'll flog it..
