Been meaning to put this on here for a while, found for sale by my.mate who bought it for himself, until I saw it and persuaded him to let me buy it off him π This is where it had been sat since around 1994 from when the tax ran out until the end of 2017 when he dragged it out Needed a lot work as it didn't run or roll, engine was happy to run being an old 1.6td we just chucked a new battery on it, fuel and some oil and it coughed into rattly life. Got carried away while I was sorting the rear brakes and decided as it was going to replace my daily driver yaris that I would get everything off and powdercoated. Couldn't stop there, needed to get it freshly undersealed and waxolyed then got it all back together with new bushes everywhere Deceied by this point I had spent to much time making it nice to use it through the winter so I kept my yaris as my daily.

The engine wasn't great, kept presurising the coolant so I planned to swap a 1.9tdi into it, so same guy I bought the passat off was planning on stripping his 1998 audi a4 tdi Got the engine, box and all the wiring out and managed to get it running in the garage so I knew I had everything I needed Painted engine bay and anything else that I hadn't previously done all sorted, engine had to have custom mounts made, drive cups made, converted the car to hydraulic clutch , full exhaust, single mass flywheel and uprated clutch, hybrid turbo, chargecooler, worse part was the wiring but we got it down to all we needed.

Love it π. Great to see a 32B on here!! 1.9 TDI is a great engine. Can I ask how you converted the clutch to hydraulic? ( I'm going to have to do that on mine so any info/pics might save me a shed load of time!π¬π)
Coincidentally I had a D reg red one years ago, loved it, got written off, then replaced with an earlier silver one ( that's been sat in my garage for the last few years waiting for me to have timeπ)

Ahhh thought there must be some other 32b's on here haha. What engine are you planning on using? Yeah I'll add some photos below but I used a t4 transporter master cylinder with the original audi/passat b5 slave and a custom hydraulic line from hel. Should upload some pictures of yours, are they estates too ?

My folks had 3 passats, all hatch backs, first 2 were 1.6 petrols, last one was a GL5 which was my first taste of a 5 cylinder engine. I absolutely loved it, though I was only 15 at the time.
Will follow this with interest, thanks for posting

I've had quite a few people say they remember there parents having them when they were younger haha
Thanks, now I've started this thread I'll try and keep it updated. Learnt from things I'd done on my previous car and thought afterwards how I would have done it differently then applied it when I started this. Still things I would have done different but thats for the next one π

Interesting. Do these share a platform with an Audi of some sort? If so, could there be AWD shenanigans at some point?

Interesting. Do these share a platform with an Audi of some sort? If so, could there be AWD shenanigans at some point? Same as an Audi 80 of the same age, there were syncro versions but IIRC only the santana version was sold in UK - somebody will know ! My parents had a 1.8cl hatch BITD that replaced an old square w reg 100, preferred the 100 but the hatch worked better for dad and I did get an odd sneaky drive. Much quicker than my mini clubman estate 1100 ! Like the car and the development of it - keep the updates coming ! James

Interesting. Do these share a platform with an Audi of some sort? If so, could there be AWD shenanigans at some point? Same as 80/90 B2 and shared the same mellow feeling drive. GL5 with injection was my favourite (used to drive a colleagues company one sometimes) but the 1.8 went well enough too. Years later I bought a B2 90 and it was instantly recognisable as a close relative. Will be a bit of a beast with a tweaked 1.9PD. Nick

A friend of mine had a Passat synchro wagon 32b with the 5 pot engine.
The plan is to swap a 4.2 40v S8 engine in it that HD also has. Should make a nice ride. Fuel consumption on the old 5 pot is not very good, the V8 might even be more economical.

As above, shares the audi b2 platform but didn't think any synchro versions were available in the UK but I could be wrong but completely different floor pans between 2wd and 4wd so would be a lot of work to do.
The 5 cylinder ones do sound good haha not been out in one though and mine does go well with the 1.9tdi hoping to be around 180-200bhp and a lot of torque once its mapped and still decent meg's for my daily commute during the summer

This is ace, might have to have a think about doing something similar to our Coupe GT if the 5cyl JS ever decides it doesn't like life any more

Front end is shared with B2 Audi, but rear end is different... ( Basically shared with MK1/MK2 golf) Here's mine last time it was on the road ( about 15 years agoπ) and now. ( It has MK1 golf coilovers on the back and cut down 35i front springs at the moment) hopefully get back on it this year.
