Bought a ZQ8 2001 S10 4.3 a month ago.
Busy tidying it up slowly. (Thread in Garages section)
So I paid £200.00 or $260.00 for these wheels for the S10
They are OEM fitment, and were my dream wheel for this specific truck.
Example
I love this gold look, but think it will just be too much gold on the truck, blending in with it too becoming bland.
Colour selection is not yet finalised, but either stay standard, or go slightly darker to mimic the stripes on the truck.
I bought them sight unseen, based on seller telling me no kerbing, but needing a clean up, slightly understated, but still happy with them.
So now the matter of what to do to get them looking really good has raised its scruffy head.
I am 100% happy to go either route, Paint of Powder coating.
BUT.............
Really need experience to speak, and guys like jimi has already posted his opinions.
Anyway, what I need is a combination of longevity, durability, and protection. The kind of thing that resists tyre changes, being on 12 month of the year, all weathers, damp, sea salt and road grime, pressure cleaners and some scrubbing.
What I have is the following.
These wheels will be needing a refurbishment, without doubt.
Lacquer peel and also oxidation on the diamond cut surfaces, in order to get them up to the standard the truck is presenting.
During my lunch hour I used a whole large bottle of Cif/ammonia based scrubbing agent along with two large, hard brushes to clean them one at a time.
The two on the left are cleaned.
Dirty on the right.
This is what new are starting with.
Seems the paint on the rims all is good.
However, the spokes are shagged, clear coat peeling and a load of oxidising, not all are equally bad, but the need work.
Please show me and report on durability etc.
So there you go.
Today’s question and challenge.
Thanks in advance for the input.
Same wheels in December 2020

I would definitely recommend powder coating for the wheels. Looks smart and last well, I had these done around 15 years agoSame wheels in December 2020
