Hi all I've been a long time lurker on here but thought I'd finally sign up and put some stuff up on a small project I've started for my daughter. I picked it up fairly local to me looking like this.... The plan is turn it into a pedal lead sled so I will be making a new frame, rear axle and pedal assembly etc to get it as low as possible. Its going to be clear coated bare metal so the first job was getting it shot blasted and leaving it in my horrendously condensation filled concrete garage to get some patina going which turned out pretty well. The wheels it came with were also not going to cut it so I bought some steel lawnmower wheels. I've cut the space out of the seat to get the wheels up into the body. Heres an inspirational mockup picture. I picked up a steering wheel as it didn't come with one so this will do the job. I also made some not needed yet but fun to make mirrors from some stainless that will be polished up to a mirror finish and bolted to the doors. Next job on the list will be to make a rear crank style axle as the standard one is much too tall.

Got a little bit more progress made this afternoon. Today was fitting the front axle, steering and wheels to the body. I bent up a couple of bits of flat to weld from the axle to the body mounts and position it central. Then to stop it floating backwards and forwards I made a cross brace which bolts to the front end. This helps keep the front axles central in the arch. Now its rolling on all four wheels, the next job will be to make the pedals.

I'm in great work, what are your plans for the front panel ? Thanks dude! I'm going to keep it simple i think, I think I'll do a pair of half bumpers out of some 3/8" or 1/4" polished stainless tube and possibly leave the centre as is but I'm not sure yet. Then I need to source some lights that are between 55 and 65mm for headlights, I'm hoping maybe some spot lights off something might be close!

Small update. This is the bit thats a bit finger in the wind guess work. To spin the back axle I need to make a crank arrangement. I made some match drilled brackets with a pin welded in for a rose bearing. I'll have to cut the section of 16mm shaft out to allow it to spin but I am hoping that it doesn't allow that section to bend when the weight is on it. Should hopefully be ok as I used 8mm plate and they aren't very long so should be pretty sturdy. Fingers crossed! The discs here will have some pins welded in and i'll drill the inner side of the wheel to match, this will drive the wheels as there are bearings in them.

After not getting chance to look at it for a bit I've managed to get a couple of bits done this week. Got the pedals made out of some stainless pipe and flat, they swing a lot smoother than the originals! Then got some front bumpers made up and fitted along with the mirrors. Also found some perfect front headlights that are the exact size I need, I'll make a stainless capped headlight surround to mount them.

This is ace! I have a long-unstarted pedal car project, and a newly arrived little person to motivate me to start it, so watching this with interest!

Congratulations on the newly arrived little person! Its been quite a fun little project so far and as the arrival of our said little person put a stop to any free time for big projects, having a small one that only requires half an hour here and there has been great. When you start get a thread up, would be great to see what direction you go in!

Made a little bit more progress, I've decided to get it painted now after all so I needed to remake the seat in mild steel to make it easier to paint. The plan is a dark-ish purple with ivory lettering and pinstriping. All hot rods need a name and mini ones are no exception so I've named this one "Low-Motion" which will be scripted across the boot. I've also started plugging all the no longer needed holes which is hard work to say the least! I'm not expecting a perfectly smooth finish as its a spot welded together 3 piece body and there's a high chance of regular crashing! Started by making a template Then onto metal Then some folding Then welded in Then I made a boss to fit the steering wheel

Really interesting progress , it's looking good already. The front seems to have a face. I'm interested in the details of the supplier of the wheels and tyres?

Great job on this so far!
Before You start the paint job would You consider changing the back, so it would be longer? Currently it looks a bit out of proportion TBH. Some classic fender parts from a real car or even a wheel barrow could help here?
And the car should have a fake grille.
If You´d consider bumpers, You could use vw beetle overriders at the front instead of those tubes and a shortened beetle bumper at the back (or fiat 500 parts)?
Just my 2p.
