So, having gathered some prime chod starter late-retros for the sub2K retro post, I found myself in a bit of a rabbit hole on eBay, as you do. Until I found this. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ford-f350-dually-wrecker-cooters-hazard-county-tribute/313427420249I love wreckers. Specifically American sling and boom lift, but auto loaders are also awesome. Call me strange, perverse, whatever. I thought seeing as we have had a small influx of trucks recently, grizz's Chevrolet and aaran05's Ford Sooper-Dooty I'd see if this goes down well, or like a pair of concrete boots on a pinstriped-suited corpse. I'm going to stick to retro, light-use recovery here, I don't want to get too heavy (pun unintended) as we can quite quickly end up in lorry territory which, while is cool, I feel a little off focus. So here we go. Pics from the eBay listing. I would lose the Hazzard County stuff as it's not even the right truck, ditch the wrong lightbar and build a proper locker set up to hide the chassis length issue but that's just me. Moving on, let's start with a little British recovery stuff. Modern plastic bumpers and large valances all but killed off the the sling lift truck, with the advent of wheel lift. And moving on over the pond: Feel free to add away, or indeed any old stories you may have!

I remember as a sprog I had a fleet of corgi mk2 transit recovery trucks at my disposal. Sure it was a Holmes style design. All my cars got a recovery on the back of them. Great days. Watched cannonball run 2 on repeat for hours cos the recovery guy who went to rescue Catherine Bach had a Holmes equipped 454 with 4 on the floor recovery truck

I have the Corgi Ford Homles truck (not my pic) And an AA speclift Mk3 Transit and Escort respose van, 2 of the Corgi Landrover wreckers, a Ford Model A wrecker, all kinds of stuff that grabbed my attention at model fairs.

Also the local garage where I grew up had a v4 mk1 transit van cut down with a Harvey frost mounted in the back of it. Usually had an escort hangin off the back of it. Also the cannonball run truck was the 454, 4 on the floor, full house with a blower. Laugh now when he says ain't she a sweetheart

Pretty sick looking truck, I'm still in nit sure what to do with mine, clean it up and keep for a bit, colour change n lift it, realise I bought a monster I cant really use (cry a bit) n sell it, or just drive it.
Dunno lol

I had the larger scale corgi mk3 transit spec lift too but my wee heart always loved those mk2 transit wreckers. Had the yellow ones with rescue on the bonnet an the white BP ones. Wonder where they all went?

I saw this one in Hamburg This one just tips over into the lorry territory. It was one of our wreckers at the NCB, but it’s a tiny lorry 😉

That Opel blitz is lovely an the ERF is simply stunning. Is it wrong we get cheap thrills from recovery motors?

Is it wrong we get cheap thrills from recovery motors? Nah. A number of games I play even feature recovery kit, I particularly enjoy the Autoloader in Flashing Lights.. And Spintires' MAZ-8385 heavy recovery crane..

A country garage in Northland had a '29 La Salle car that had been cut down and fitted with a wrecker body. For many years that was their recovery truck. In the mid '80s the boss, by then retired, rebuilt it as a business coupe. Got some hard copy pics somewhere.

A guy in our Bodyshop (Lol Franks, as in Lawrence not 🤣) bought it & restored it to that condition. He then sold it to Cotes Park Commercials who re-painted it in a different livery. There’s some stuff here, I don’t do Flickr so can’t see it www.flickr.com/photos/gibbsy1949/49952817618
