So I’ve got this terrible car cleaning addiction I think I need to start a small thread of my work Dunno whether it’s an acceptable thread but hey I’ll start it and see how it progresses...a good few retros will be done and some on the cusp if that’s ok ?? I’ll share this a couple of recent ones I’ve enjoyed doing This is my now daily Vauxhall combo rescued from certain death This one Vauxhall meriva has been left for months under some trees due to the owner passing away, my son bought it And I got stuck in this week every night for a few hours after work, probably not retro yet but it’s a cracking little car I’m by far no professional but just really enjoy bringing lack lustre cars back to a presentable finish I love the end result And it’s amazing what you can achieve with quality products I’m in no way connected with any car cleaning product company , but I favour a mix of autofinesse products and I’m impressed with pure definition stuff too I’ll update as the year goes on as Theres always something needing some love turning up here if anyone wants to see anymore of my hobby

I like this kind of thing so I'll happy read your thread.
I have quite a lot of auto finesse products but I never have the time to clean my cars let alone rub magic potions into them.
I look at da machines every so often but I worry I'd burn through the paint.

I did have to use a mop on the combo van But generally I like doing them by hand It’s much less work I think Oh look at them classics !! Fantastic work sir Some things demand a rotary or dual action. Hand doing stuff is way more hard going but therapeutic. I had a black van come into my workshop. It was nailed.

I do enjoy a good detail. The before and after shots are always the most satisfying. I don’t have any pics of anything retro but my daily is always kept clean.

I liked to see a polished car, but it’s a pita. I’m all for this now 😀😉

I'm rubbish at having time to clean my car's properly, I have loads of great products that are sadly still mostly in the packet (I blame schools being closed lol) But my guilty pleasure is watching Autoshine Blackpools deep clean videos, it's not so much detailing like the specific detailing guy's but something relaxing about watching some pure filth get turned into something that resembles a car you would sit in/drive. www.youtube.com/user/autoshineblackpool

I like buying a car cheap because it looks a dog, spending a day polishing value into it the previous owner was too lazy to do, plus a shiny car makes me think of it as less of a nail. That Merriva came up really well.

I love seeing the difference between a neglected car and a fully valeted one. @mercdan68 the difference in that Meriva, the Combo and your old 190 are awesome. I wish I had the same gumption to do that.
I for one HATE cleaning cars. I will wash mine regularly (Dodo Juice Born to be Mild and a lambswool mitt) but I really can't get into the whole polishing side of things. Plus I have a friend who's a valeter by trade so I will happily send it his way to do the donkey work.

Great thread Dan that combo looks great. I hope to get started on my R8 when the weather warms up and I get the Minor reassembled.

Looking forward to seeing what you manage with this truck. I am contemplating G3 and a slow DA mop on the day as well.

Fair play to you - some great examples of work there! I really wish I could be bothered - but I find cleaning/polishing slightly soul destroying as I know it won’t take long for my good work to get undone...
I’m genuinely asking as I want to know - How do you not feel like that? Do you find the process itself a calming thing to do? Is it for the visual gratification of being able to stand back and see the results straight away?

That answer is easy enough , I’ve been car mad since I was very very young, been going to car shows since I was about 13 years old Clean cars have been imprinted on my family from my dad he was a London cab driver for thirty years and the black cabs he owned were always spotless The carriage office in London were and still are very hot on cabs being maintained and spotless I grew up polishing and generally maintaining my dads FX4 cabs And yes I find it very therapeutic after a weeks boring work To stand back and see a shining example gives me great pleasure

Getting paid to do it, is mostly what motivates me.... but it’s ingrained in me, and has been for years, to keep cars clean and the paint in good condition.
