Evening all!
Apologies if this is the wrong section for this question, mods feel free to move if needed?
I'll cut the sob story short ... Lost everything I owned when my marriage ended, been living in a tiny house with no garage, scraping every penny together meant no cars / bikes of any interest ... Now I'm buying a new place with a garage, and I need to buy a full set of hand tools.
Been a long time since I bought my last lot (Halfords Advanced / Professional or something). I don't have the money for Snap-on, but am looking for a solid set of tools that will last. Only thing I don't need is a toolbox, already buying a mate's Mac box.
Any advice / links greatly appreciated. Can't wait to get grime under my nails again!

My parents bought me one for home a few Christmas’s ago, very well stocked, quality is good, mine has done some good wrenching. Shop around as a lot of the different ones come with different contents so be sure to look at a few and find one you will get the most use from. Mine is lacking deep sockets and a decent hammer and breaker bar but otherwise very comprehensive, with circlip pliers, lots of different drive bits, ratchet and ring swan-neck spanner’s, screwdrivers, punches etc. You can’t lose for the money as even the roll cab feels like it was worth what they paid for the set.

Awesome, thanks for the insight. Was concerned they would be made out of brie spray painted silver for the price so that's good to know!

No, the ratchets all seem good quality, so much so that I realised a chap I work with in the garage has a set of the same ones in his proper work kit. I couldn’t tell you what brand mine is. But they aren’t really a brand, just something that sounds ‘brandy’ slapped on and I think by and large the sets are all the same stuff give or take. The sockets are 6 point too in mine which is another thing I like, I can’t stand 12 point unless you are undoing a 12 point fastener. I’ve not broke anything from it yet, bent one of the thin punches but I was abusing it, and that’s about it. 2 spare ‘big’ drawers in my box too for me to sling breaker bars, hammers etc as well so you can add to them too for the odd bits they don’t have.
