1988 Porsche 924s 2.5
Registered in November 1988 (5 months after the end of production of the 924 range), this must be one of the last of these remarkable little sports cars to have been built. There were only just over 4000 924s cars built. If you are reading this advert then you probably know that the ‘S’ has the Porsche designed and built 2500cc engine, as opposed to the Audi derived 2000cc fitted to the earlier 924 models. In the last year of production (which this one is) Porsche lifted the engine output from 150 to 160BHP – not bad in a car that only weighs 1300kg and famously has almost perfect 50/50 weight distribution giving it superb handling.
The car has had 8 owners, the last one being a Porsche 924 Owners Club Official who had the car for 6 years. I have only owned the car for a few months, but the chance to buy my dream car (a Porsche 911) has come up so I’m selling the 924s and my 1965 Beetle.
The MoT History (available to view online) and the many invoices for work over the years confirms the car’s mileage – 123k miles – low for a 34 year old sportscar! Most of the MoT Certificates from 1999 onwards and service invoices from 1996 onwards are with the paperwork.
The current MoT expires on 2nd March 2022. There were no advisory notices when the car was tested.
In the last month the car has been serviced and a new timing belt, tensioners and water pump were fitted. This was done as a precaution as I couldn’t be sure when these items were last replaced when I bought the car.
Overall the 924s is in good condition. The sills are a prone to rust on these cars, but they have been replaced by a previous owner. Otherwise the paintwork is original, so obviously it has one or two minor marks which you would expect with a car of this age. The alloy wheels and tyres are in good condition and the centre caps were recently replaced with genuine coloured ones from Porsche.
The 924 has a large sunroof which tilts or can be removed completely and stored in a bag in the boot. It has a Pioneer radio / CD player, electric windows and mirrors.
The interior of the car does let it down a little, but that is reflected in the asking price. The seats are a pinstripe fabric with faux leather bolsters and side panels. As is common on Porsches of this age, the seats need attention. The stitching between the fabric and the front seat bolsters has come apart and needs to be either replaced or repaired. The rear seat also needs attention. The top of the rear seat has become sun-bleached and threadbare but I have a complete replacement new rear seat in the same fabric and colour and in good condition ready to fit. (There is a company who will supply a complete refurbished interior for your 924 / 944 in the original Porsche fabrics for around £900 if you want to get your car to show winning standards)
A relatively rare car and priced to sell. 924’s, and particularly the rarer versions like this are climbing fast in price. Sorry, not looking for p/x or swaps. The car is only being sold to fund the purchase of a 911, if that falls through I’ll keep the car, do the cosmetic bits and enjoy it for a bit longer.
Available for viewing in Woking, Surrey.
