I had another look at the carb yesterday and it’s still leaking so I’ve ordered the repair kit available for it and a new air filter. Good old YouTube came through with 2 videos of this exact carb being refurbed so hopefully there’s light at the end of the tunnel. Let’s say the carb refurb doesn’t cure this issue where do I go from here? If the carb rebuild doesn't sort it then it's ignition time. I don't know this engine but it's no doubt all behind the flywheel as they like doing that. Means it's a pain to get to, you need a puller, and setting the timing may be tricky. Hopefully the ignition coil is ok. One thing at a time though, carb first, new plug (or at least clean the old one) and see what happens.

I’ve changed the plug already. It’s now black.
It being an ignition issue would make sense as it’s struggling to fire

You can get the flywheel off without a puller on my Villiers, lock in place (I used a rope) then crack off the centre nut which then unwinds a bit, gets tight again and when you carry on slackening it pulls the flywheel off. Poor description... but you hopefully get the idea.

Carb has been rebuilt from a service kit. The need was bent so that fixed that.
It starts and mows the lawn now. Although it’s very fast. Even with the throttle low I’m almost jogging behind it.

That’s the first time I’ve read an RRer say their engine is too fast! You just need a running board behind it to stand on!

The next question is do I paint it and get new atco decals? Part of me wants to bring it back to brand new. The other side enjoys the patina built up over the years

Lots of love for the honest survivor look here. As Glenn says it's only original once.

Noted. And it’s a lot less effort for me. I tried using the mower today after a couple of weeks of problem free mower. It just wouldnt start.
Then the carb started leaking fuel. I took the top of the carb off and it was full of fuel. I think the float is the issue
